GARRETT
Raymond Walter Garrett of Lacombe, loving husband, father and poppa to Margaret, Doug (Laura), Dyane (Bryan) and Braden, died peacefully in his sleep March 3, 2010 at the age of 63, of pancreatic cancer. He was predeceased by parents Walter and Alma and brother David. Survived also by siblings Phyllis, Edith (Chris), Lorne (Cecilia), Nancy (Doug), Linda, Larry and Norman (Corinne), in-laws Bob (Marilyn), Harvey (Darlene), Norma (Stan), and Jeanne (Cliff), and many other relatives and close friends. Celebration of Ray’’s life will be held March 8th , 2010 at 1:30 PM from Wilson’’s Funeral Chapel,6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe. Bridge
Wade Glenn Bridge passed away on March 1, 2010 at the age of 38. He was born on September 14, 1971 in Red Deer, Alberta to Pat and Glenn Bridge. He attended school in Lacombe, Alberta. He also attended Red Deer College for automotives and welding. He married Wendy (Murphy) Bridge on June 5, 1993. They have two daughters Kaylee and Kelsey. He was devoted to his family. He loved to quad, moto cross, horseback ride, fish and play all sports. He had a strong work ethic and was well respected for the pride he took in his welding. Wade leaves to mourn his wife of 16 years, Wendy and his daughters Kaylee and Kelsey of Elnora. His Parents Pat and Glenn Bridge of Mirror, Alberta. Siblings Charla (Pete) of Lacombe, Tammy (Cody) Hart of Bradshaw, Myron (Vickie) of Bowden. Grandma Olson of Lacombe. Mother and Father-in-law Gerry and Shirley Murphy of Elnora. Scott, Robert Leon (Bob) 1931-2010
Bob died at home in Lacombe of a heart attack on Saturday, February 27. He is survived by Joan his loving wife of 56 years, seven children and their families, including 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, two sisters-in-law and a large extended family. Bob was born in Drumheller and grew up in the river valley with his three brothers where they lived from one boyhood adventure to the next . He moved to Calgary and attended Crescent Heights High School graduating so long ago that when he and Joan went to a class reunion they discovered their graduation class picture hanging just outside the boiler room. After high school Bob attended SAIT, switching from Aircraft Mechanics enrolment line to Drafting at the last minute. He graduated with a diploma in drafting and started work for Fred Deeves and Insurance Underwriters where he developed expertise with fire prevention systems. Most of his working career was spent with Marsh McLennan as a commercial insurance broker. During the last five years of his working life he and Joan ran Robert Scott Insurance, a successful enterprise which they eventually sold. Bob always loved the parklands of central Alberta where he and Joan chose to retire and subsequently built their home in Lacombe. They vacationed for 35 years ab Bellenden Cottage on the shores of Buffalo Lake, often only returning home in the summer long enough to have children’s braces tightened. Bob was active all his life as Mason and Shriner and was a Past Master of Zetland Lodge in the Calgary. He had a passion for woodwork and spent as much time as he could in his wood shop creating a myriad of items that are now treasured more than ever. In the last few years he took an interest in gardening and delighted in growing taller corn and sweeter tomatoes than his children. Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; a man of integrity who will be missed by all who knew him. Sharkey Marianne Emma (Cassidy/Northcott)
It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce that Marianne "Passed through the doors of this world into the arms of angels " on February 27,2010 at the age of 53 years at the Lacombe Hospital with her loving family at her side. She lost her 5 1/2 year fight against ovarian cancer but what she never lost was her determination and a fighting spirit. Her courage and dignity throughout has been an inspiration to us all. Although the time we enjoyed and cherished with her was too short, Marianne touched us all with her profound strength and passion for life who loved her family, friends and life very much. She is the meaning of strength. Marianne was born on February 5, 1957 at Lacombe Ab. She was raised and took her schooling in Ponoka, Lacombe and Red Deer. In 1975 she graduated from DelMar College of Hair Design in Calgary Ab, Marianne was such a creative, professional and passionate stylist, she loved styling family and friends hair, and took pride in it. She enjoyed cooking, interior decorating, sewing, camping, music, reading, travelling, boating and spending time with family and friends. Her greatest love and pride was in her two sons which she nicknamed Coder-son & Boomer they are her heart and joy, she would always tell them " Believe in your dreams and know how much I believe in you . BENSON
Helen Benson of 4508 C&E Trail, Lacombe Alberta passed away in the Lacombe Hospital on February 25, 2010 at the age of 91 years. Born in Clive Alberta, January 28, 1919. She grew up on the family farm in the Gadsby Lake District and attended the local country school. She was united in marriage to William (Bill) Benson on November 17, 1938. Betty was born in July 1939 on the original Malott homestead. In 1942 the family moved to Lacombe where Bill was employed at the Research Station. Howard was born in Lacombe in October of 1946 and in 1947 the family purchased and moved back to Malott homestead. Ken was born in April 1957 and in April 1965 the family became complete with the arrival of Peggy and Doug. After the death of her husband in 1997 she purchased a home in Lacombe where she lived until August 2006 when she moved to the Lacombe seniors Lodge. Helen was always active in the community and loved to garden. She and Bill both enjoyed having company and visiting with family and friends. She spent countless hours researching family history, co wrote a book called “ The Land Of The Lakes” and wrote her own book “Turning the Leaves of Time”. In the past year she was working on another book about the family homestead from the beginning to present day. A week prior to her passing she spent an afternoon with her nephew Bill Sharp discussing pictures she wanted included in her story. Predeceased by her husband William Benson, eldest son Howard Benson and two sisters Kathleen & Elizabeth. Helen is survived by 2 sons, Ken (Laurette) Benson of St Albert, Doug Benson, 2 daughters Betty (Alvin) Peers of Lacombe, Peggy Benson of Calgary, a daughter in law Nancy Benson of Lacombe, 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 sisters in law, Inez (Bill) Condon, Hazel (Ron) Browning, 3 brother in laws, Stan (Marg) Benson, Howard Benson and Eldon Benson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Leslie Nieviadomy went to be with the Lord on February 18, 2010 at the age of 60 years. Les worked in Central Alberta in the automotive industry for 30 years. His last years he spent in home renovations. He loved to golf (which he didn’t take seriously) and to sing which he took very seriously. He has gone to join heaven’s choir. Mrs. Tillie Poohkay of Rimbey, Alberta passed away on February 5th, 2010 in the Rimbey Long Term Care Centre at 93 years of age. Tillie is survived by three sons, Arnold (Dianne) Poohkay of Viking, Peter (Colleen) Poohkay of Sherwood Park, Dr. Marvin Poohkay of Edmonton, daughter Evelyn Soleski of Viking, & daughter-in-law Lillian (Poohkay) Sidlowich. She will be remembered by her 15 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Tillie was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Alexandra Romaniuk, 3 sisters, Cassie, Irene & Mary, son Milton Poohkay, grandson baby Darrin Soleski, granddaughter Courtney Rackel, son-in-law Julian Soleski, and her husband William Poohkay. Alberta Liebing was born in Homer, Nebraska and passed peacefully on February 5, 2010 at the Lacombe Nursing Home at the age of 96. Alberta spent most of her life in Central Alberta. She was married for over 50 years to the love of her life, Roland, who predeceased her in 1983. Her eldest daughter, Evonne Weitzel, step-daughter, Irene Paige, daughter-in-law, Sharon Liebing and twelve siblings also predeceased her. Alberta will be lovingly remembered by daughter Joyce (Lyle) Potter of Red Deer, son Avery Liebing of Manitoba, daughter Orlean Lesher of Lacombe, son-in-law Floyd Weitzel of Clive and step-daughter Leila Batke of Rimbey, as well as all her loving grandchildren, great, grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She brought great joy and love to all who knew her. At Alberta's request, there will be no funeral and cremation has taken place. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Robert Dolling on January 27, 2010 at the age of 92 yrs. Robert was born in Coronation and in 1948 married Mary Ryan. They lived in various parts of Alberta including Coronation, Lacombe, Alix, Red Deer and in 1970 retired in Summerland, BC. In 1990 they returned to live in Red Deer to be closer to family. They lived in Parkvale Lodge where Mary passed away in 2002. Bob was very active in golf, curling, scrabble and cards. He played the voilin since he was young. He was also in the Golden Circle and Parkvale Lodge choirs. Bob had a strong faith and was always active in the church. He was an usher at the Crossroads Church for several years. Bob is survived by his daughter Lois (Rob) Christensen (Red Deer); son Marvin (Joyce) Dolling (Calgary); three granddaughters, Marla (Dave) Kuhn, Shauna Christensen, Andrea Dolling; two great-grandsons Avery and Ethan Kuhn. In-laws Josephine Johnston, Vera Miller, Irene Dolling, Lloyd Ryan. Predeceased by wife Mary, siblings Edna Peterson, Leonard, Harry and Paul Dolling. William Kenneth "Bill" Barnes

Passed Away January 26, 2010
Bill lost his battle with cancer January 26, 2010. He was born October 26, 1941 in Lacombe and raised northeast of Clive on the family farm. He worked for Calgary Power/TransAlta Utilities for many years. Bill was predeceased last year by his wife of 16 years, Bev; his parents Earl and Helen in 1971. He leaves behind his companion and friend Shadow; Bev’s son Trevor, wife Tammy and 3 children Tegan, Taryn and Tyler, as well as his daughter Jenny, husband Owen and 3 children Morgan, Taylor and Spencer. He also leaves his siblings Marie, Winnie, Dorothy, Florence, Don, Ethel, Jack and Kathy and their families. He was special to a lot of people. His passion was camping "out west" and running his quad. He would go out sometimes even before the snow was all melted, and stay until the flakes flew in the fall. He also loved to hunt. He was always playing cards with family or friends or just plain visiting. He spent a lot of time on projects out in the workshop, from shadow people to birdhouses to Hope Chests. He will be deeply missed. ALLEN
Roy James Allen passed away on January 17, 2010 at the age of 57 years. He was born July 23,1952 in Edson, AB to Jim and Mona Allen. He spent his growing up years in Edson and loved hunting and fishing with his dad. He married Nettie (Annette) van der Veen October 7,1972 in Edson, AB. Duane was born in Edson in 1974 and they moved to Hinton in 1975 where Michelle was born. In 1979 they moved to Lacombe where they lived until his passing. Roy set the example and instilled an extremely solid work ethic in both of his children. He worked at various places throughout his life and for the past 29 years Roy worked for Inland Concrete (formally Parkland Permacrete) in Lacombe. Roy loved and was so very proud of Duane and Michelle and his 7 grandkids: Danielle, Nathan, Rebecca, James, Theo, Ava and Chandler. Not only were they so very loved and cherished in his heart, their names were tattooed on his arm which he loved to show off to anyone. Dad's passion was his motorbike and was always looking forward to the next ride. "There's no such thing as a bad ride, just some better than others" Roy leaves to mourn his wife Nettie of 37 years, his son Duane (Karen) Danielle, Nathan, Rebecca, James of Petawawa Ont. Berry
Hugh Buffington
1921-2009
Hugh was born in Coleman, Alberta January 4, 1921. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Jean, and his daughter Gayle Berry. He leaves behind eight grandchildren ( Duncan Cross, Nicholas Berry, Graham Cross, Carl Berry, Valerie Cross, Pamela Berry, Logan Cross and Andrea Berry) and two great- granddaughters, Hannah and Linnea Cross. Also, his youngest sister Joyce Lorenzo and her husband Al and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister, Molly Arrison (in 2003) and his son Guy Berry in 1989. Hugh worked for the Royal Bank of Canada from 1938 until his retirement in Lacombe, Alberta in 1979. He began his career in Sexsmith, Alberta and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1939- 1945. During this time he served with regiments in England, Africa, India, Italy and Burma. Upon his return from the service Hugh was assigned to Cardston, Alberta where he worked with his future brother-in-law. He married Jean Kelly in 1949 and they moved to Hanna. From Hanna, Hugh became bank manager at Hines Creek, Alberta and then again in Barons, Evansburg, Didsbury, and finally Lacombe, Alberta. (In the past eight years Jean and Hugh have enjoyed life in Red Deer.) He was an active member of the Masons, the Legion and elks in each town he resided in. He always volunteered on church boards and carved many turkey at the local turkey dinners, He loved to hunt, fish, curl, golf, play bridge and win at crib tournaments. However, his favourite sport was out in his rowboat on Moberly Lake in northern BC A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm, Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe Alberta. Ronald Armor Moore
1925-2010
Ron Moore passed away peacefully in Calgary after a lengthy struggle with heart failure on January 9, 2010. He is survived by daughter Marsha (husband Gord) of Rocky Mountain House and two sons, Randy (wife Shou-fang) of Vancouver and Terry (wife Marni) of Heriot Bay, BC as well as friend Doreen McBeath of Calgary. In addition he has two surviving sisters, Audrey and Elaine, both of Calgary as well as four grandchildren. He was predeceased by wife Esther and two brothers, Everett and Byron. Born in Delia, Alberta, he was raised on a farm in depression-era Alberta. After graduating from high school in 1941, he immediately enlisted in the navy where he served over the next five years as a radar rating on the destroyer HMCS Huron. On discharge from the navy, he attended business college and went into the grocery business. He married Esther in 1949 and had 3 children moving to Lacombe in 1955. He had an IGA store in Lacombe which he ran until selling in 1966. He then continued a career with Westfair Foods across Alberta and eventually went to work for the Alberta Government in Co-operative Affairs. Seeing the need for better political representation he was elected to the Alberta Legislature as the representative from Lacombe in 1982 and served under three administrations before retiring in 1993. Since retiring he authored a political column in a number of weekly newspapers, kept engaged in the periphery of politics and travelled extensively. He was particularly proud of organizing the Boulevard of Honour in Lacombe whose trees continue to grow. Always interested in the development of the community he will be remembered for extensive involvement with business evolution in Lacombe, the Legion and youth sports during his younger years. He continued that commitment to community development throughout the constituency during his terms in the Alberta Legislature. His family will remember him as a fine father who communicated an intense interest in the news of the day and the importance of personal involvement within the community. He had an enduring interest in the ecology of Alberta, collecting wild seeds in the fall and redistributing them in the spring earning him the family title of Ronnie Appleseed. He has moved the entire family with this sense of community and personal responsibility. Evart James Brewer, son of Cyril and Anna Brewer spent his childhood years in central Alberta before the family moved to Oregon where Evart attended high school. He participated in many sports and before returning to Canada he was offered a sports scholarship. Upon returning to Alberta he became the first apprentice mechanic for Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Company of Canada.Evart and Doreen were married in 1958. Evart worked 20 years for Halliburton where he enjoyed the opportunity to travel to the Arctic, Singapore as well as many places in Canada and the United States. He then spent 1 year with Federal Offshore in Nova Scotia which proved to be a wonderful adventure for his whole family. Upon returning to Alberta Evart taught heavy duty mechanics for3 years at NAIT then worked for Radium Well Servicing until taking his final full-time position with CN. Following his retirement he enjoyed working part-time for his nephew Doug Hilsabeck at Renn Mill. As a man who loved God, Evart was dedicated to serving his Lord in many aspects within the churches he attended. One of his special interests was mission work. He had the opportunity to be part of a short-term missions project to Guinea, Africa. Then most recently, Evart and Doreen fulfilled a dream they shared of ministering together in missions when they spent 3 years working in Sri Lanka for New Life Literature printing Bibles and Christian literature. Evart was a faithful and loving husband to Doreen. He loved, supported and encouraged his children in all their endeavors. His deepest desire for his family was to see them follow Christ and serve Him faithfully. Evart is predeceased by his parents Cyril and Anna Brewer. It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dwayne who left us unexpectedly but peacefully Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the age of 64 years. Dwayne is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Nancy. Dwayne is also survived by his children, Brad, Brent and Shar, Darryl and Shannon, Angela and Leonard, a nd his adoring grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Chelsea, Travis, Jaegar, Andrew, Joseph, and Cameron. Dawayne is also survived by his brothers, Pat and Shirley, Merle and sister, Rena, numerous nieces and nephews, Aunt Winnie, as well as extended family and friends. Dwayne is predeceased by his mother, Lucy, Father, Cecil, and by his brother, Gary. Dwayne thoroughly enjoyed riding his motorcycles and they were his most prized possessions. Dwayne was the greatest wood worker and built many wonderful pieces from chests to miniature chuckwagons. Dwayne spent his working life driving truck and operating equipment. A greater man we will never know and he will be missed for eternity. Ride on! James Calvin of Lacombe passed away peacefully on December 30, 2009 at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre. He was born September 27, 1923 in Lacombe AB. He was the fifth child of Mr. And Mrs. Byron Butcher. Predeceased by his wife Lorennia (Rene) parents and his brothers Albert, William, Frank, Roy and his sister Olive Jones and one nephew Darryl Jones. He is survived by his niece Doreen Kinney of Edmonton, nephew’s David Jones of Edmonton, William Jones of US. His close cousin Thomas Butcher and his wife Jerry of Red Deer. Also his close friends Grant and Colleen Salmon of Lacombe. James attended West Branch School until his brothers signed up for WWII. He left school so he could help his father farm, as his father couldn’t handle the job by his self. He started driving 8 head of horses doing all the things it took to get the crop in. It became his love of the land from then on. He finely took over the farm after his parents retired to the Lacombe Seniors Lodge. James met the love of his life, Lorennia and they were married June 26, 1986 at Langley BC at her nephew’s Wayne Grimes. James had by this time retired and rented the farm out. They then started travelling at first by John Parson’s bus tours to the USA this they enjoyed to no ends as they made many friends. After awhile James bought a motor home and his cousin Ward Willson became their chauffeur and with him they travelled to many states and parts of Canada. Their other pleasured were his garden growing dahlias like his father before him. He was very good at growing them rising up to 100 plants and he also gave away to anybody that wanted them. James remained on the farm until his health started to fail. At first he stayed with his cousin Thomas and Jerry Butcher until he got worse. He was sent to private care centre in Red Deer and after a few months there he was admitted into the Lacombe Extended Care until his passing. A thank you goes out to Dr. C. McKibbin and all the nurses and support staff at the Lacombe extended care ward in Lacombe Hospital. And a special thanks to Grant and Colleen Salmon for all their help and time they gave to James. Herb attended schools in the Bentley area and post secondary in Calgary. For a short period of time he worked in the oilfield and then pursued his life long passion for farming. September 6, 1933- December 28, 2009 It is with sorrow and heavy hearts the family announces the passing of a dear Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. He is survived by his wife Helen of 49 years, three sons, and one daughter. Tony (Val) Depauw and their children, Brandon, Bailey, Derek (Amanda) and Emberlynn Rose. Lee (Frankie) Depauw and their children, Jordan (Terry) and Marcus. Dean Depauw. Julie (Rocky) Downton and their children, Hannah, Paige, Maddison and Alli. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews at Red Deer, Calgary, Vancouver, Rimbey, Lacombe, Alix, Napa, California, and surrounding areas as well as a host of friend. Maurice was predeceased by his Mother and Father, Joe and Mitilda, brothers Bob (Nel) Depauw, Paul Depauw, Auntie Germain, Uncle Ray and Aunty Reta Depauw. Maurice took his schooling at Paplar Ridge, Vancouver, Rimbey finishing at Composite High School. He then enrolled into Southern Institute of Technology at Calgary where he achieved his diploma in Mechanics and worked for many dealer ships in Red Deer, In 1960 he married his wife Helen and together they purchased a farm in the Lacombe County. Maurice took a lot of pride in his mechanics and as the family grew and with the help of his family he was able to continue his mechanics as well as farm. Maurice loved music and dancing was his greatest hobby. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 35 years. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 1:00 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, #6 McMillan Ave, Red Deer, Alberta. Interment will follow in the Alto Reste Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. Mrs. Swanie Wiersma of Lacombe, Alberta, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday December 25, 2009, at the age of 82 years. She passed away peacefully in Palliative Care at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Center. Swanie was born March 19, 1927 in Wommels, Friesland to Jack and Gerbrig Hoeve, the third of six children. When she was nine months old she travelled by boat with her family to immigrate to Canada where they settled in the Woodynook area. After finishing school Swanie worked at the Red Deer General Hospital as a nurse’s aide. On June 17, 1953, at the age of 26, she was married to George Wiersma. They lived and farmed in the Lakeside District for 56 years. As a wife and mother, she was active in her church and community, as well as a lifetime member of the Lakeside Social Workers. Swanie was predeceased by her infant daughter Sandra, her parents Jack and Gerbrig Hoeve, her brother Bert Hoeve, parents-in-law Okke and Maaike Wiersma, and brothers-in-law Frank Tolsma, John Salomons, and Don Wiersma. Swanie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband George and two sons Murray(Annette) and Raymond(Tracey) of Lacombe, 10 grandchildren Carmen(Steve)McKerrow, Lindsay, Amber(Johnathon)Nagel, Stuart, Meryl, Erin, Evan, Cole, Zander, Conner, one great-granddaughter Tori McKerrow, and two foster daughters Sandra Pudlo and Tammy Brown. She also leaves to mourn her sister Tetsy Tolsma, sister-in-law Wava Hoeve, brother Dave (Helen) ten Hoeve, sister Alice (George) Amunds, brother Charlie Hoeve, sisters-in-law Theresa Salomons and Sally Wiersma, brother-in-law Jack (Dottie) Wiersma and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Lavern Edwin McCaig of Bentley, Alberta went to be with the Lord he loved, on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the at the age of 63 years. He passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer. Lavern was born April 11, 1946 at Didsbury, Alberta and spent most of his life in central Alberta. Lavern lived a full and exciting life. He enjoyed challenges and worked at close to forty different jobs, including working in the oil patch and doing many different types of trucking and farming. He helped build the Resources Railroad up through Grand Cache. He also helped construct the Jasper Sky Tram. Much of the past 30 years was spent selling trucks (Al Glover IH), tools (Snap-On), being a service manager (Ford) and doing automotive mechanicing in his own repair shop. For the past 15 years he greatly enjoyed running his own used-car dealership (L&K Enterprises in Bentley). Lavern had his ham radio license and also had his private pilot’s license. He enjoyed motorbiking, playing crokinole and pool and having relaxing “business meetings?” at local coffee shops. His interest in sharing the gospel resulted in several outreaches to Mexico as well as two years spent in England with O.M. (Operation Mobilization). Lavern was well known for his love for people. His quick wit and easy going personality often encouraged laughter and good times. He was a man of integrity and rare generosity. Lavern will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by Kay, his beloved wife of thirty years, as well as daughter Laurie (Dan) Litchfield of Bearspaw; son Travis (Angela) of Lacombe; daughter Verena (Larry) Primeau of Endeavour, SK and son Warren (Jacqueline) of Bolivia, S.A. “Papa” will be missed by grandchildren Brayden, Allison, Hailey, Matthew and Benjamin. Also left to mourn Lavern’s passing is his mother Dorothy Janz of Three Hills. He is also survived by brother Wayne (Marilyn) McCaig of Camrose; sister Grace (Irvin) Isaac of New Norway; brother- in-law Dave Riopel of Edmonton; brother Philip (Betty) McCaig of Strathmore; brother Paul (Peggy) McCaig of Grindrod, BC and sisters Lois Carter of Calgary and Shirley Frenette of Leduc. Lavern was predeceased by his father Lloyd McCaig, stepfather Gus Janz, twin sister Sylvia Riopel, stepsister Glenna Colbeck and brother-in-law Jean Frenette. A celebration of Lavern’s life will be held at the Bentley Community Church on Wednesday December 23, 2009 at 2pm. Private family interment will take place the day prior. ORVIL SAUDER of Lacombe, AB., passed away at the Lacombe Hospital on Monday, December 14, 2009 at the age of 92 years. Orvil was born on November 3, 1917 near St. Jacobs, ON. At the age of 2 the family moved to the farm on the hill overlooking the village of Breslau, ON. where he grew up with 3 brothers – Clare, Gordon and Carl and 4 sisters – Nelda, Alice, Marjorie and Edith. He attended the one room school which was attached to their property and his father cared for by keeping the furnace lit, etc. Orvil spoke of many escapades – along with the hard work- that he and his family and friends did over the years. They attended a little Mennonite Church in Breslau and for the most part the girls got to ride to church in the horse and buggy but the boys would have to walk. Orvil spoke of his memory of milking the cows with his mother and singing hymns together. Orvil married Elizabeth Stan in 1944. They had 2 children – Diane and Larry. Orvil worked very hard providing and caring for his family. In 1953 he was hired on in the trade as an electrician – which continued to his retirement. As his children married and moved to Lacombe, Alberta, Orvil soon followed and eventually moved on to Larry & Carol’s farm. Orvil’s greatest love was his family and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would share many rhymes with them (both in German and in English). He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing euchre and crokinole. He enjoyed working with Larry on the farm and together establishing Sauder Electric. He also loved to fish. He would take his grandchildren fishing and went on many fishing trips with Larry and others. Orvil was predeceased by his brother Clare, his sisters Nelda Bergy and Marjorie Zieman as well as his parents, Jacob & Catherine Sauder. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his sister Alice O’Donoghue of Kitchener, ON., brother Gordon (Ella) Sauder of Dunnville, ON., brother Carl (Mabel) Sauder of Manitoulin Island and sister Edith (Emerson) Hisey of Lions Head, ON.; his children Diane (Reg) Darnell of Lacombe, AB., Larry (Carol) Sauder of Lacombe, AB; his grandchildren Tim (Stephanie) Darnell, Kevin (June) Darnell, Chris (Michele) Darnell, Krystal (Mark) Berg, all of Lacombe, AB., Jennifer (Dave) of Fort McMurray, AB.; his great grandchildren – Ben, Bryan, Alyssa, Abigail, Haley, Nick, Hannah, Matthew, Hope Darnell and Taya Berg. How blessed we were to have him in our lives and will treasure forever all of our wonderful memories. Sunday December 6, 2009 Ruth passed peacefully into the arms of her loving Saviour Jesus Christ. We praise God for his loving mercy toward Ruth all the years of her life. Ruth was born June3, 1935 in Aurora, Illinois and since retirement loved in Lacombe. Ruth passed in the Lacombe Hospital at the age of 74 years young. She is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 53 years, her six children and eight grandchildren. John Samuel (Jack) of Lacombe, AB passed away peacefully in the Lacombe Hospital on Friday, December 4, 2009 at the age of 81. He was born in White Bear, SK on Feb. 20, 1928. In the early to mid 50's Jack lived in White Horse working as a fireman and helping out at a mission. He later moved to work on a ranch near Coronation, AB, during his time there he met Mary McComish whom he married March 30, 1960. Most of Jack's working career was spent with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in Snipe Lake, SK. He retired in 1989 and moved to Saskatoon, SK. In 1998, Jack and Mary moved to Lacombe, AB. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary and sons, Myron and Debbie, and their daughter Stephanie (Chicago, IL); Harley and Katherine, their children, Madison, Hayden, Teagan, and Hunter (Cranbrook, BC); Nolan, his sons, Derek and Tavis (Ponoka, AB); Blair and Kim, their sons, Hudson and Maguire (Kuwait); and, Craig and Amy (Olds, AB). Also surviving are his sister Margaret (Muggie) Gunderson (Kyle, SK) and brother Earl (Nanaimo, BC). He was predeceased by his parents, Sanford and Helen, infant sister, Irma, brothers Leonard and Bill, and sister Nona. His personal faith in God, and Jesus Christ as his Savior, was strong throughout his life. His life exemplified his devotion to God and dedication to his wife, family, and friends. Haldon passed away peacefully early Friday morning at the Lacombe Health Care Centre. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marion, his children; Harold (Jean) of Haynes Ab, Ron (Peg) of Sandpit BC, Allen of Nanaimo BC, Carol (Sid) Grant of Clive AB, 14 grandchildren, 16 great children, his sister in law Inez Robinson and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Haldon was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Eva, brothers Don, Rex and Archie and sisters; Reba Edith, Ruth, Dena and Ann. Haldon started and was Scout Master of the first Haynes Scout Troops for 32 years and the Sunday School Super Intendant of Haynes United Church for 23 years. Alan Swarbrick passed away peacefully on December 3, 2009 at the Lacombe Hospital after a lengthy illness. Alan leaves a host of friends and acquaintances from his active life in Lacombe and surrounding community where he lived and worked for over 60 years, his square dancing activities, his travelling locally and overseas and his doing “odd jobs” around the neighbourhood. Family was important to Alan and took pride in his genealogy project. He will always be remembered for his forthright demeanor. He leaves to mourn his spouse of 65 years, Pearl, and children, Dick (Sue) and Ellen (Wayne). He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren plus his siblings, Freda, Cliff, Lorne, Earle, and Ed and their families as well as families of his predeceased siblings Betty and Glen.
