My heart broke today to learn of dad Roe's passing last month. I so deeply admired this man. I was fortunate to be one of his 'students from around the world' as mentioned in his obituary. He and Ruth opened their home and their hearts to many exchange students through the years. My time with them was while a participant with Canada World Youth. SUCH admiration for him and SO fortunate to have (together with Archana Rupwate) called him dad. LOVE ❤️ LOVE ❤️ Through the years since, it was always such an honour to visit. SO regret I hadn't kept in nearer contact in recent years. Sorry Bern, that because of my lacking effort, I didn't learn of your passing until now. Your passion for cycling rubbed off on me... Enjoy your bike rides in heaven! RIP Love to Mom Roe, Susan and all the Roe family who shared your dad with me and so many. Hug holds to you all through this time of grieving and remembering.

My family and I are very grateful to have received the love and support of my second family - that of Bern and Ruth and their children. My boys, Ryder and Cole, have been molded by core values learned in Mack's care; a testament to the teachings of Ruth and Bern. We are thankful for this gift and feel blessed to have received...through our children...a family tradition centred around genuine caring, warmth, and acceptance. No one could have modeled a more compassionate, genuine, or open style of living and I will always be grateful to Bern for his "being"; we should all aspire to live as Bern lived. What a guy...With renewed awe and love, Eric and family

Ruth, yourself and Bernie were such wonderful neighbors and always so helpful. Was so nice to have spent a few years living so close and getting to know you both. Ruth this is truly sad news. Bern took me on my first hike and also was brave enough to take a bunch of young teens, including Gavin, hiking. I remember him working on policy for use of our outreach dollars at St. Cyprian's. I remember so many small moments when what he said changed the way I saw the world. I once had a hairdresser who told me how he had set her on the right path in high school. The ripples go on and on. And so they will, his goodness will be with us always. He will be with me whenever I sit down to work on a crossword. Blessings to you and yours Ruth.

My sincere condolences to your family. Mr. Roe was such a strong presence back in high school as a teacher, mentor and leader. I remember him for his smile! Years later, he was a good friend to my parents and I recall how often, when Mom had a computer issues, she'd say, "Well, I'll just call Bern. He'll fix it for me!" RIP Mr. Roe - your work here is complete.

We wish to express our condolences. Bern played a huge part in our lives being the chairman of the police commission that formed our ties to Lacombe in 1994. He also sponsored me to join Rotary, from which we have formed lifelong friendships. He set high goals and was a true leader. Rest in peace Bern!

Mr. Roe was the principal of LCHS when I was in high school in Lacombe and was a great educator of not only things within the walls of the high school but was willing to share and teach life experiences and knowledge outside those walls. Long after I was done school if I were to see him around town I would always say hello and he would ask me how things were going. Always such a pleasant conversationalist whenever that would occur. My condolences to the family on your loss.
