ANDERSON nee Leeti

Elva “Helen”

1936 – 2016

On Tuesday August 23, 2016, Mrs. Helen (Leeti) Anderson of Bentley, Alberta passed away peacefully in the Rimbey Extended Care Hospital at the age of 80 years.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years Jack Anderson, two daughters; Deb (Charlie) Spendiff and Faye (Mike) Poffenroth, grandchildren; Mathew, Jessica, Savanna, Brent (Naomi), Thomas (Amber), Jeni-May (Kalcy), Tanner (Michelle), Logan (Kelly), Kesler, Colin (Alycia), Riley, Jace, Kai as well as great grandchildren; Hawksley, Lyla, Jake, Aidyn, Griffen, Morgan, Kashis, Quynn, Kane, Ella, Jaeda and Jaxon. Helen also leaves to mourn two brothers; Irven and Gordon (Johanna) Leeti.

Helen was predeceased by her parents Elmer and Martha Leeti, sister; Aileen Lyons, children; Barbara Lawton and Trent Anderson, granddaughter; Ilona Poffenroth and great grandson Gage Poffenroth.

Helen was born in Sylvan Lake, Alberta on June 5, 1936 to Elmer and Martha Leeti. She was the second child of four and grew up on the family farm on the north-end of Sylvan Lake. After High School, Helen worked briefly in the bank and on July 24, 1957 she married Jack Anderson. Together they raised four children and resided on their family farm West  of Bentley.

Helen was multi-talented and enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, weaving and anything she could do with her hands. Helen was not a stay in the house cooking and cleaning farm wife, no she pitched in where ever she was needed. She could operate the tractor, the truck and even would spell Jack off on the combine so that he could have a bite to eat. Helen cherished trips to Sweden, Finland, Norway and the coast. She was an active member of the Bentley 4-H Sewing Club, the Lutheran Ladies Aid and the Eckville Weaving Guild.

In the summer her garden and flowers brought hours of enjoyment and during the winter she spent her time watching all of her grandchildren’s school activities.

Family was very important to Helen and in her final years her time was spent making quilts for all the great-grandchildren. This was a continuous tradition that she carried out for all of her grandchildren throughout the previous years.

Many special thanks to Dr. Debruyn and the nursing staff at the Rimbey Extended care for all the special care given to our mother.

Helen will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral Services will be held from the Grace Lutheran Church on Tuesday August 30, 2016 at 1:00 PM with Reverend David Holmes officiating. Interment will follow in the Vig Cemetery.
