HARRY SIEBENGA

Harry Siebenga passed away on February 19, 2017 at the age of 72 years. Harry was the fourth child of Siebe and Alice Siebenga. He was born in Bentley on March 9, 1944 and had his education at Lacombe Christian School. He had a hard time in school. At that time special programs or educational assistants were not available for students who could not learn in the regular classroom setting. After he left school, he worked on the family farm with his dad, Siebe and his brother, Jack.

In 1975 he moved to Edmonton and enrolled in a vocational college to upgrade his learning skills. He worked as a security guard at oil wells, building sites, government buildings, as well as West Edmonton Mall. Because of his diabetes, his work was affected and he was granted an AISH pension. He then volunteered at different jobs and tended the gardens and lawns at the places he lived.

He lived in a group home until the summer of 2007 at which time he had a heart attack that left him in a coma for four weeks and hospitalized for several months. He recovered and resided in the Allan Grey Continuing Care Center in Edmonton until his passing. He enjoyed going for coffee and coming home to the family farm for family get-togethers and celebrations.

Harry is survived by his brother Jack (Linda) Siebenga, and his sisters Rinda Marnow, Agnes Struik, Tena (Harry) Valstar and Marg (Jake) Hoogland, sister-in-law Anne Siebenga, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Siebe and Alice Siebenga, his brother Wieger, and his brother-in-law Ralph Marnow.

Funeral Service will be held at the Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in Harry memory can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
