Ronald Nagel Obituary

Mr. Ronald Delmar Nagel, of Lacombe AB, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the age of 81.

Ron was born to parents Henry and Anne Nagel on April 28, 1936 in Leader, SK. After the family moved from Leader to Calgary, then to Vancouver before settling at Hillsdown where he attended the local country school and high school in Red Deer.  In Ron’s younger years he loved to hunt and fish whenever he had the opportunity. He worked as a long haul trucker, on highway construction crews in Southern Alberta, and oilfield trucking in Central Alberta. In 1962 Ron joined his parents when they moved to the Peace Country in the Bear Lake area where he met and fell in love with his soulmate, Lorraine Bode. They were married in Grande Prairie, AB in 1964. Together Ron and Lorraine started a family and a farm in partnership with Henry and Anne near Lorraine’s childhood home. In 1975, after ten years of grain, animal, and commercial egg farming, with the retirement of Henry and Anne, Ron and Lorraine moved the family to the good farming lands of Jones Valley, Joffre. In 2004, Ron and Lorraine retired to Red Deer where he continued to help out with harvests on the family farm, pursue his love of learning about Western history, visiting museums, and taking care of the song birds that flocked to his feeders. Throughout his life he remained quietly proud of his children and granddaughters.
Ron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lorraine; daughter, Jane of Edmonton; his son Dale, and wife Laurie and their daughters Rheann and Ronlyn of Joffre; his sisters, Patricia Charette of Ottawa, ON and Sharon Reinderhoff of Kelowna BC. He is preceded in death by his parents.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to all friends, family, and neighbours who have shown great love and care.  Our heartfelt thanks are also extended to the staff at the Centennial Centre of Ponoka, and the Lacombe Hospital Extended Care for the past two years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ellis Bird Farm, or to the charity of your choice.  A celebration of Ron’s life will be planned for the summer of 2018 with further details to be announced.
