Ruth (Ingebretson) Nickel

Ruth was born in Norway to Oscar and Tonette Ingebretson on August 15, 1922.  The family immigrated to Canada in 1928.  Ruth grew up in several small communities in southern Saskatchewan and in Alberta. She trusted Jesus Christ for forgiveness of her sin as a young person, and enjoyed teaching children to do the same.  She married Jake Nickel in Toronto on September 1, 1951, and three children were born to them.  The family moved from Herbert, Saskatchewan to Eckville, Alberta, in 1969, and then to Lacombe in 1974. Wherever they resided, Jake and Ruth took a passionate interest in serving the Lord by any means they could, not the least of which was prayer.  Seven grandchildren brightened their lives.  A year and a half after Jake went to Heaven in 2011, Ruth moved to Jasper to be near her son Roy and his wife Joyce, to facilitate their care for her.  Nine great-grandchildren joined the family, and she loved them all.  Her health began to decline sharply in the spring of 2016, and she was welcomed into the presence of her Lord on August 19, 2017.  Ruth was known for her warm smile and her faith in God.  She is affectionately remembered by her three children: Marjorie (Laurie) Goertzen, Gwen Nickel, and Roy (Joyce) Nickel; seven grandchildren: Graham (Eva), Lincoln (Rebecca), and Davis (Teresa) Goertzen; Paul (Mariken) Church; Nathaniel (Amanda), Christina, and Timothy Nickel; and nine great-grandchildren: Timothy, Lauren, Amanda, Andrew, Benaiah, Chesed, Megan, Olivia, and Luke; as well as numerous treasured nieces and nephews and dear friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Church, 27008 Township Road 405.5, Lacombe, Alberta on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 2:30 p.m.
