FARNHAM, Velma Ruth

It is with very heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Velma Farnham of Rimbey on August 11, 2017 at the age of 77 in the Rimbey Hospital.

She was born in Rimbey on August 23, 1939 as the 5th of 10 children to Maxwell and Vera Lawson.  She lived with her parents on their farm in the Meadowvale District west of Rimbey.  She attended the Meadowvale School until grade 9 when she left school to start working at the Rimbey Hospital.

On May 9, 1958 she married Walter (Buddy) Farnham.  Shortly after, they started a family and Velma stayed home to raise 4 children.  They moved around a lot and finally settled in the Rimbey area.  She enjoyed horseback riding, camping, flowers, gardening, dancing, card games, family and friends.  In 1993 she moved to Eckville to live with her friend Stan but was excited to be back to Rimbey in 2013.  She could be seen walking the path in Rimbey with her friends.  She also did a lot of floor curling and dancing.  She was always happiest when she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Velma is survived by her children: Shirley (Randy) Ingram of Rimbey, Bev (Blair) Quaife of Lake Isle, Karen (Pat) Coffey of Whitecourt and Quentin (Dodi) Farnham of Bentley.  1 brother Lyle; 3 sisters: Myrtle (Ernie), Ava and Nora (Gordon).  Also 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents Maxwell and Vera.  4 brothers: Mervyn, Jim, Arthur and John and 1 sister Mary May and her friend Stan Carlile.

A celebration of Velma’s life will be held at the Rimbey Seniors Drop In Centre in Rimbey on August 23, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00.  If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Rimbey Seniors Drop In Centre P.O. Box 1352 Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0.
