Anne Colleen McCluskey Obituary

Anne Colleen McCluskey

1954 - 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Anne Colleen McCluskey announce the sudden passing on November 3, 2019 of their beloved sister, aunt, and great-aunt.

Born in Wainwright, Alberta in 1954, but having spent most of her adult life in Lacombe, Alberta, Anne was predeceased by her parents Nelson Cameron McCluskey in 1982 and Mary Elizabeth (Sayer) McCluskey in 2000. She leaves behind her half-brother Rick Sayer and his partner Vesna, Rick’s children Leslie and Andrew; sister June Annable and her spouse Donald, child Jeannette Hippe and her spouse Harlen, their children Darion, and his partner Amanda, and Shelby; sister Lee Conforti and her spouse Robert, their children Michael and Jonathan and his spouse Ashley and child Mabel;  brother Cameron McCluskey and his spouse Deb, and their blended family children Melissa McCluskey and spouse Nick, Vanessa McCluskey and spouse Peter and children Liam and Jacob, Chris McCluskey and spouse Lindsey and their children Logan and Gracelyn, Tammy Burgess and spouse Pete, Sarah St. Peter and her spouse Joe and children William, Ryan, Alex and Max; sister Bonnie McCluskey and her spouse Rob; brother George McCluskey and his partner Emy; and sister Pamela McCluskey and her spouse John and son Drew and his spouse Dana and child Hannah.

Anne devoted her life to helping others. She retired from the Lacombe Police department in 2013 after 33 years of service, mainly as a 911 dispatcher. Anne was a long-time member of the Lacombe Lions and the Crown Jewels of Canada Local Chapter Red Deer Rebells. Anne’s selfless and caring nature was demonstrated in all that she did. She was a faithful volunteer at the Lacombe Hospital and at various events in and around Lacombe. During Heart and Stroke month, Anne would be seen canvassing around town. She loved attending the Lacombe Cow Patty theatre, The Edmonton Fringe festival, music festivals, craft sales, and bowling. She loved family get-togethers, playing cards and board games, jig saw puzzles, music and reading. Anne believed in buying local and supporting local businesses.

Anne was an avid crafter. Along with her mother, Anne knitted baby toques as part of the Guardian Angels program; for her personal Canada 150 project, she knitted 150 toques for pre-mature infants and accomplished her goal in less than 6 months. One Christmas, a box of Anne’s brightly coloured hand-knitted slippers helped warm the toes of the guests at the Calgary Children’s Cottage.

The travel bug hit Anne shortly after graduating high school from M.A.C.C. in Alix, Alberta. She cruised the Pacific Ocean, rambled the British Isles and sipped whiskey sours in Cypress. Anne and her mom coughed the dust of many a back road during road trips throughout Canada’s western provinces. For her 50th birthday, Anne and her four sisters took Las Vegas by storm! Anne’s most recent trip was with her family to Newfoundland.

In keeping with Anne’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral but instead friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Anne McCluskey on Saturday November 9, 2019 at 2:00 p.m at the Kozy Korner, 5024 - 53 Street, Lacombe. A light lunch will be served.
