Dennis Lawrence Thiem

April 28, 1946 ~ May 30, 2018 (age 72)

Dennis Lawrence Thiem of Gull Lake AB, beloved husband of Teresa Thiem (nee Klammer), passed away suddenly on May 30, 2018 at the age of 72 years, at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton AB.

Dennis was born on April 28, 1946 in Camrose AB. After several years of residing in Edmonton AB, his family moved to Red Deer AB, where Dennis continued his education and chose to apprentice as an autobody mechanic. He met Teresa in 1964 in Sylvan Lake AB, and they were married on Oct 28, 1966 and had three children together. Dennis spent 30 years in the autobody trade and was always very mechanically inclined as well. He loved being a handyman, always tinkering and creating, and there was little that he couldn’t fix.  Following his career in autobody work, Dennis mainly worked in various oilfield related jobs. He was a true outdoorsman with a love for camping, and nature in general. He took great joy in riding dirt bikes and snowmobiles, and later took up quadding. Dennis had a great love for creatures great and small, particularly his dogs and cats, as well as the birds and other wildlife that frequented or inhabited their acreage. An avid sports fan, he was also a long-time supporter of the Edmonton Eskimos and the Edmonton Oilers.

Besides his loving wife Teresa, Dennis is also survived by his three sons: Rick (Randi) of Lacombe AB, Darren (Lorie) of Red Deer AB, and Sheldon “Shab” of Sedgewick AB. He will be dearly missed by his seven grandchildren: Justin, Tristan, Treydon, Christopher, Matthew, Kaylee and Samantha, and also one great-granddaughter, Hailey. Dennis is also survived by his brother Richard Thiem and his wife Sandra, of Blackfalds AB, their children and families, his mother-in-law Kathy Wolfe (nee Klammer) of Saskatoon SK, and also his aunt Bertha Lawrence of Red Deer AB, as well as numerous other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Olive, his infant brother Melvin, his father-in-law Earl Klammer, and his beloved dogs Ronnie and Nodie.

Dennis achieved many great things in his time here – he was truly gifted at autobody work, also a mechanic, and an exemplary husband and family man. He enjoyed a simple yet fulfilling life of providing family, friends and neighbours with his wisdom and knowledge; he had a quirky sense of humor and easy smile, and a willingness to help anyone in need.  He displayed a quiet yet confident disposition and was the best husband and father a family could ask for. An extremely loving, caring, and supportive man, he was an impeccable example of what a man should be.
