Dorothy Wynia Obituary

WYNIA, Dorothy Ann

April 24, 1950 – September 9, 2019

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Ann Wynia of Red Deer on Monday, Sept 9, 2019 at the age of 69, after a quick courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her illness, Dorothy maintained her sense of humor, strength, wit and deep love for her family and friends. Dorothy was born on April 24, 1950 in Lacombe Alberta to (Bill) Willem and (Jenny) Jeltje (Sinnema) Bajema as the second oldest and only daughter of five.

Dorothy grew up in Lacombe and married the love of her life, Dick (Dirk) Wynia on June 20, 1969. They later welcomed their sons Ervin Wynia in 1970, then Wilfred Wynia in 1972, and their only daughter Linda Wynia in 1974. Dick and Dorothy had a construction company that they worked at hard for many years and invested into real estate that allowed them to retire early. She had a passion to travel the world, which she did for the last 30 years of retirement with her husband. She also loved to sew, read, garden and have family gatherings. She had a special bond with all 5 of her grandchildren. Ashton (1995), Landon (1997), Alyssa (1998), Kenzie (2011), Berlyn (2014). She was always proud of their accomplishments and looked forward to their next visit. She always had a way to keep closely connected to her family and siblings that were near and far--far away as Australia. Her loved ones will always remember her for her ways to bring the family together and her words of encouragement and strength she brought all of them. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband Dirk Wynia of 50 years, son Ervin (Alanna) Wynia, son Wilfred (Tanya) Wynia, daughter Linda Wynia. Mother Jennie Bajema, Grandchildren, Ashton Wynia, Landon Wynia, Alyssa Wynia, Kenzie Wynia, Beryln Wynia. Surviving siblings, Jake (Maria) Bajema from Australia, and Evert (Gloria) from Saskatchewan. Surviving in-laws: Jim Davidson, Annie (Larry Zimmer) Hyndman, Debbie Wynia, Shirley (Bill) Rodgers. Also left to mourn are several nieces and nephews.  Dorothy was predeceased by her father Bill (Willem) Bajema and younger brothers, Peter Bajema, and Ron Bajema, sisters-in-laws Rolena DeJong  and Teresa Davidson, brothers-in-laws John Wynia and Case DeJong.
