Doug Fawcett Obituary

Mr. John Dougald "Doug" Fawcett passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with ALS.  He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Janette (Garnons-Williams), son Mark (Wendy) Fawcett, their sons Ryan and Jordan of Edmonton, daughter Karen (Christian) Marriott, their sons Micah and Seth of Lacombe, Laurie (Kevin) Bresee, their sons Connor and Peyton of Lacombe, and numerous friends and extended family.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Afton, sisters Carol Dunker and Jean Delparte, brother-in-law Art Dunker, and beloved grandson Chris Fawcett.

Doug was born in Lacombe, growing up on the family farm north of town, in the Fairview District.  He married Janette of Piapot, SK on June 20, 1964.  They raised 3 wonderful children on the farm, before retiring and moving to town in 2002.  He was an active member, leader, and supporter of 4-H, Cubs and Scouts; coached Hockey, Ringette and Ball; founding member of the Lacombe Vintage Machinery Club; Community Supporter; and a self-proclaimed Junkologist.  He was also a long-term friend and employee of Nick Hannas and Doris Ballantine at Hannas Seeds.

In their retirement years, Doug and Janette enjoyed travelling the world, with trips to Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, China, South Africa, Costa Rica, Europe and numerous places in North America.

When they weren’t travelling, Doug kept busy as the caretaker of the Lacombe Ag. Society grounds for 15+ years.
