Douglas Arthur Cartwright

1941 - 2019

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Douglas Arthur Cartwright on November 18, 2019.

Doug was born June 20, 1941 at Lacombe Hospital to parents Arthur and May Cartwright.

Doug took all his schooling in Lacombe. As a teenager until his early twenties, Doug did mechanical work for Millers Garage, Mainline Motors and Ferguson’s Garage. In the early 60's he started what would end up being a lifelong career as a grader operator in road construction working for Hopkins and numerous other companies throughout Alberta. In the early 70's he spent a lot of time working in northern Alberta for Staheli Construction. In 1975 he bought his first grader and started his own business, Cartwright Excavating, and continued as a contractor with Stahelis. In 1985, after many years of being away from home and on the road, Doug decided to concentrate on the Lacombe area for work. He worked for numerous oil companies around the area blading and building lease roads. He also worked in the Towns of Bentley and Lacombe snowplowing and building subdivisions. In 2011 Doug sold his grader and retired at his acreage west of Lacombe where he spent time relaxing with family and friends.

Doug is survived by his wife of 31 years, Rose Cartwright; his son Don (Aletta) Cartwright; daughter Kim Cartwright, stepsons Randy (Donna) Martin and Dean (Helen) Martin. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Kayla (Tristan) Storkson, William Storkson, Kristina (Craig) Isaac, Adam (Marie) Cartwright, Sheldon (Jillian) Cartwright, Conner Cartwright, Jesikah (Cedric) Klebanowski, Shalynn (Adam) Klebanowski, Keeshia Fortney, Alex Martin; and three great grandchildren: Aaliyah, Zzayden and Jacob. He is also survived by one sister, Dot Seibel and nephews Murray and Brian (Cathy) Seibel, sisters-in-law, brothers-in law and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Doug was predeceased by his daughter, Hally Cartwright, his parents Art & May Cartwright and infant brother Donald.
