Flora Minnick passed away at the Central Peace Hospital, Spirit River on May 17, 2018 at the age of 95 years.
Flora was born in Richlea, Saskatchewan on March 23, 1923, to parents John Thomas and Elizabeth McDonald. During her life she lived in Plato, Marshall and then Lone Rock, Saskatchewan and attended school at the Dulwich. In 1944 she married Walter Jay Minnick and that same year they welcomed their son Malcolm Ross, better known as Mickey. In 1946 the family bought their own farm near Lone Rock and in 1958 they moved to Fort Vermillion, Alberta followed by a move to Lacombe, Alberta in 1963.
Flora was involved in many 4-H clubs, church and agriculture and was heavily involved in Toastmasters. She loved to go RV-ing and went on many caravan campouts which helped push through the David Thompson Highway that we know today as #11.
Flora’s husband, Walter passed away in the spring of 1995 and in 1996 she moved to Spirit River to the Senior apartments and then to a room in the Pleasant View Lodge.
Flora is survived by her son, Malcolm "Mickey" (Astrid); granddaughters, Alberta Chard and Marlene Minnick; and great granddaughters Shayna Minnick and Lauryn Davis.
