SHERWOOD, Gordon Nelson

On Tuesday, March 12, 2019 Gordon Nelson Sherwood of Bentley, Alberta passed away at the age of 83 years. Gordon was born in Hanley, Saskatchewan, the second of seven children of John and Pearl Sherwood. He attended the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Agriculture in 1956-57 before returning to take over the family grain farm, then moving to Alberta in 1966 to begin a cow-calf operation. He was involved in both the Canadian and Alberta Limousine Associations, in addition to the Grey Wooded Forage Association, National 4-H Council and the 4-H Foundation of Alberta. Active in the community, Gordon was elected Councillor in the County of Wetaskiwin for two terms and served on the Alberta School Trustees Association and the Wetaskiwin Hospital Board. He curled for many years with the Rimbey Curling Club plus served on the boards of the Rimbey United Church and a number of other community service organizations.
Gordon leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Ellen Sherwood (Murray James Pyle) and Donna Klutz; grandchildren Jaclyn (Jesse) Vikse, Jonathon McPherson and Kaitlyn, Micaela and Natalya Klutz; great-grandsons Kohen and Lawsen Vikse; siblings Bernard (Lesley) Sherwood, Milly Hartley, Audrey Cameron, and Elva (Erwin) Zicker; in addition to many relatives and friends.
Gordon was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, sister Viola Billet, brother Calvin Sherwood and children Betty McPherson and Robert (Bob) Sherwood.
A memorial service to celebrate Gordon’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Rimbey United Church, Rimbey, Alberta. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Rimbey United Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
