Gwenneth Bennett Obituary

Gwenneth May Bennett

1926 - 2019

Gwenneth May Bennett passed away quietly Dec 29, 2019 with her children by her side. Gwen was born May 13,1926 in Park Court, Alberta, the third child and only daughter of Richard Parry and Olive Mary Edis. Growing up during the depression and second world war gave mom the habits of thrift and hard work that shaped many women of her generation. While boarding with the Bennett family in Enderby, BC, she met their handsome son Walter, who was home on leave from the Air Force. In December, 1946 they married and began farming in the Enderby area. Their first son Rick arrived the following year and the next 40 years were absorbed with farming and raising their six children. They moved to Armstrong in 1961 and then in 1974 left BC to farm in Alberta, first in the Morningside area, then Mirror, Alix and Tees before retiring to Lacombe. Wherever she went mom got involved with her community: helping run the Armstrong 4H Beef and Riding Clubs, teaching Sunday School at the United Church in Enderby, serving with the Rebekah Lodge, the Tees Ag Society and for many years on her condo board in Lacombe.

Mom loved bright colours, dancing and even near the end of her life could carry a tune when she sang. She was interested in people, always asking others about their lives, not just in talking about her own. In later years, visits from her family and reading were her greatest comforts. Mom always said you might be alone but you will never be lonely if you have books.

Mom is predeceased by her husband Walter and her brothers Richard and Lesley Parry. She is survived by her six children: Rick (Moyna) of Vancouver, Dennis (Sylvia) of Mirror, Greg (Connie) of Prince George, Jean (Norma) of Roberts Creek, BC, Doug of Clive, and Ron (Paula) of Edmonton, and seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2020. If desired, donations in Gwen’s memory can be made to your local public library.
