1925 - 2019

Mrs. Hjordis Gunvor Andersen of Lacombe passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, June 3, 2019 at her residence in the Royal Oak Manor at the age of 94 years.

She is survived by her children; Lorne, Dean (Lavonne), Gwen (Paul) Betts, Diane (Keith) Doerksen and Wendy Veroba; her grandchildren, Mitchell, Matthew, Craig, Steven, Mark, Danielle, Christopher, Devon, Brittany and Cameron.  Hjordis was predeceased by her husband Knud Andersen in 2012.

Hjordis was born and raised in Norway, she met and married a Danish boy, Knud in 1952.  That same year they immigrated to Canada to start a new life. She remained proud of her Norwegian Heritage and always took the time to teach about it. They settled in Calgary in the Wildwood area where they raised their children. In 1957 they bought a farm in the Elnora area where they farmed part time, spending weekends and summers picking roots and rocks and spending time as a family.  In 1977 they moved onto their farm full time.  Hjordis embraced the farm life, growing a big garden and preserving and canning what she grew.  She baked her own bread and provided a comfortable and warm home.  Her hands were never idle, knitting, sewing, crocheting and was gifted with hardanger and embroidery.  Knud and Hjordis retired to Red Deer in 1995 where their social life changed with many outings and dancing.

A Graveside Service for both Knud and Hjordis will be held in July 2019 in the Elnora Cemetery, Elnora, Alberta.
