Johannes (Jan) Steeneveld

Johannes (Jan) Steeneveld was born on April 30, 1949 in Nootdorp, Holland and passed away on June 1, 2019 in Lacombe, Canada.

Jan leaves behind his loving wife Marleen, daughter Karin (Berend) and sons Arjan (Leah), and Alex (Danielle). He was pre-deceased by his son Marien (1985 – 2008). He also leaves behind a rich legacy of grandchildren: Sem, Mike, Ella, Jace, Jazlyn, Elden, Nash, Kate and Rosa; the best Opa ever. Jan was also pre-deceased by his father Elderien (1912 – 2007) and mother Janna (1921 – 2019).

Jan’s greatest treasures were his family and his farm. He was a man of a steady pace; he took his time to observe and enjoy the little things. With his calm & easy-going nature he was a true friend and liked by many. He had a wonderful sense of humor and countless sayings which we keep close to our hearts. Jan had a special touch for creating all sorts of things out of barnwood. He enjoyed working in the vegetable garden, reading books and he could easily find chores around the farm to keep him busy. He always made time to take the grandkids for rides on the ranger and in his antique red Chevy truck during the summer and on sleigh rides behind the snowmobile in the winter. It was hard to know who had more fun – Opa or the grand kids. One of his greatest joys was to go on adventures with his honey, Marleen, in their cozy motor home to explore the great North American nature.

All these things made him our wonderful, loveable and authentic Lieverd, Pap, Opa, Jan.

Honouring the life of Jan a service will be held on Saturday June 08, 2019 at 1:00pm at St. Andrew’s United Church.
