Lorna Dorothy (Hall) Pickett
September 20, 1928 - December 6, 2019 (Age 91)
It is with great sadness that the family of Lorna Pickett announce her passing on Friday, December 6, 2019, at the age of 91 years. Lorna will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 years, Donald and their 3 children, Joanne (Dave) Schneider, Gary (Gayle) Pickett and Bob (Verna) Pickett. Lorna will also be fondly remembered by her 7 grandchildren, Charmaine (Jeff) Hitchen, Bradley Hand, Leslie Schneider (Dave Mellings), Robyn Normand, Travis (Nicole) Pickett, Heather (Terry) Kipling, James (Naomi) Pickett, and her 13 great grandchildren.
Lorna will also be forever remembered by Don’s brother Jack and his wife Doreen, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Lorna was predeceased by her parents Richard and Jane Hall; Her sisters, Florence Fair, Frances Pepper, and brothers Richard (Dick) Hall, and William Hall.
Lorna was born and raised in Lacombe. She attended school in Lacombe and later was employed in a variety of clerical positions including the Bank of Montreal and Agriculture Finance Services Corp. (AFSC).
In 1948, Lorna met Donald Pickett at a Young People’s gathering. After a courtship they were married on June 15, 1950 in the Hall Family Home. Donald was the love of her life, and together they raised three children, worked hard and filled their home with love and many fond memories. In their retirement Don and Lorna travelled to California, Hawaii, the Maritimes, Vancouver Island and Northern British Columbia. On these many journeys they always took time to browse the antique shops along the way, keeping a keen eye out for another treasure to add to the collection.
Lorna was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and especially loved her role as grandmother. Each grandchild was the recipient of many special hand knitted items crafted with love by Grandma.
Lorna enjoyed knitting, playing piano, card games and puzzles, until her loss of vision took those activities from her.
Two years ago, Lorna and Donald moved to the Lacombe Senior Citizen’s Lodge and this past Spring failing health, brought another change and Lorna moved to Acute Care and finally Long Term Care in Lacombe.
Lorna’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful and supportive staff at the Lacombe Seniors Lodge, the dedicated Medical Team at the Lacombe Hospital and the compassionate and caring staff in the Long Term Care. Special thanks to Dr. Nadine Chatel for your kindness and professionalism, we are truly grateful to you. Lorna’s final months were made brighter by visits from her special niece, Judy Korol, family friends and her Eastern Star Sisters. Thank you for your support.
