Susan (Kars) Zylstra

“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. Susan is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Dave Zylstra of Lacombe, AB, her children John (Hilda) Zylstra, Marty (Adeline) Zylstra, Geraldine (Herman) Klaassens, Jackie (Clayton) deGroot, Arlene (John) Goutbeck, Patricia (Pete) Boonstra, Marsha (Rick) Span, Tim (Jill) Zylstra, Valerie (Joe) Van Gelderen, and Rhoda Hendricks. 

She also leaves to mourn her loss, 77 grandchildren and 148 great-grandchildren.

Susan was born in Leeuwarden FR on May 17, 1929. She went to Teachers College and after graduating,  taught for 3 years when she met and married the love of her life, Dave Zylstra on July 13, 1951. They immigrated to Canada on July 26, 1951 flying to Montreal and then spending 3 days on the train to Edmonton arriving on July 30, 1951. Like most immigrants of that era they experienced many hardships, but through all their difficulties remained strong in their faith, and steadfast in their love for each other.

The Lord blessed them richly in their many years together with 11 children and many, many, grand + great grandchildren. Our mom and “Beppe” was predeceased by her son Peter (Aug 7, 1976) and grandson Ryan deGroot (Dec 18, 2015)

There will be a public viewing November 6 from 7-8:30 at the Wilson Funeral Chapel. The Funeral services will be held on November 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM Redeemer United Reformed Church 4519-46 Ave Lacombe with a lunch to follow.
