Alexander Chernipeski Obituary

Alexander Chernipeski
March 13, 1935 to May 25, 2025

Alex passed peacefully to his rest at home in Lacombe, with family at his side. He was 90 years young.

Alex is survived by his loving spouse Adele; children Randy (Maureen), Albert (Melanie), Curtis (Nina); step children Bren (Don), Carol (Darcy), Theresa (Ward),  Darrel (Rachelle), Barry (Brenda); grandchildren Marcus (Rochelle), Anika, Desiree, Shauntelle (Chris), Sage (Michael), Jesse (Roisena), Montana (Albert), Quinlin, Mikolaj, Jedidiah, Zosha, Eloise, Gabriel, Hanalei, Julianna; great grandchildren Maddex, Lexi, Rozi, Aspen, Sierra, Nash. Brother Edward, sister Emillie, brother Steven (Marina), sisters in law Lillian, Bernice, Marjorie, Eileen and nieces, nephews and their families.

Alex is predeceased by his parents Agoffia and Steve, wife Dorothy, sisters Mary, Ann, Katrina (Kay), brothers Ivon, Nick, Mike, Victor and Harvey; step children Patrick and Rachel; grandson Jared.

Alex worked as a farmhand close to Theodore after leaving school, then south of Yorkton in the Bangor area for his sister Ann and her husband Harry. From there he went to work for his brother Ivon, operating dump trucks and associated construction equipment. In time he owned his own dump truck. In 1957 he married Dorothy Tomenchuk. After living for a time in a bunkhouse that he built, they settled in Yorkton to raise three sons. Alex began farming between Waldron and Bangor in the early 1960’s. Operating a small business or farm can have its ups and downs. There were
some lean years that took faith, ingenuity, hard work, simple living and big gardens to navigate. Times improved and the success of the farm and contracting business that took him trucking gravel and pavement in many parts of Saskatchewan. As the children started out on their own careers, Alex focused more on farming and local contracting for neighbors and the RM.

In 1983 Alex married Adele Potorieko and the family grew, adding 6 step children. As the children started their own families, the grandchildren arrived, each taking a special place in their grandparents’ hearts. The family now includes 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

As a founding member of the Yorkton SDA Church Alex supported and participated in church and community activities. Alex’s faith, family and farm were key parts of who he was and his well being. Calls and visits by family were appreciated, visits including grandchildren and great grandchildren gave extra joy to his days.

Any day that included time outdoors was a good day. Hunting and fishing were a part of his early years. He enjoyed recording people and places in pictures, collecting rocks, practical and hobby woodworking, learning new skills and doing maintenance repairs. Even when the days were long and the responsibilities were many, there could be time for gardening and lending a hand to help a neighbour. He will be forever in our hearts.

Alex’s family wish to thank the doctors and staff in Red Deer and Lacombe Hospitals for blessing Alex by sharing their knowledge, skill and care at various times over the past 7 years. Many thanks to Lacombe Home Care staff for their loving care and increasing support for Alex and family over his last 14 months.
