Ann Elizabeth (Salomons) Van Berkel

On November 27, 2021, the Lord took home our beloved wife, mother and gramma, Ann Van Berkel, at the age of 71 years.

Ann was born on August 12, 1950 in Lacombe, Alberta to Herman and Annie Salomons. She was the 6th of 9 children that lived just west of Lacombe in the Woody Nook area.  In her 20’s Ann started working at the Michener Centre in Red Deer where she met several lifelong friends. After meeting the love of her life, Ann moved to Ft. Saskatchewan where her and her husband Wim started raising their family.  Several years later, they moved back to Lacombe where they have lived ever since.  One of the highlights of Ann’s life was working side by side with many of the neighborhood youth planting potatoes in their greenhouse.  Ann loved spending time volunteering at The Building Blocks Thrift store, playing scrabble with friends, sitting around the table talking with her grandkids, and sitting on her deck listening to the birds.  Her door was always open, and the coffee always on, for friends and family to come to visit. She will be missed by many.

Ann leaves to mourn her husband Wim of 40 years; Brett Van Berkel (Noah, Leah, Evan), Amanda & Barton Ten Hove (Hayden, Cole, Brooklyn), and Todd & Michelle Van Berkel (Gavin, Charlie), as well as many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

A special thank you to the Nurses and staff at the Red Deer Hospital, Unit 31.  These people were more than caregivers to Ann over the year, they became close friends.

A Public Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 02, 2021 from 5-8:00 pm at Wilson's Funeral Chapel, 6120 Hwy 2A Lacombe. Due to current restrictions only 50 people are permitted in the building at one time. 

Due to current restrictions, a Private Funeral Service will be held at Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church on Friday, December 03, 2021 at 1:00pm.

The family will be having a Gathering for Fellowship after the Funeral at S4 Greenhouse (1/4 mile south of Hwy 12 on Range Road 27-5) from 4pm until 7pm for those who wish to attend.
