Ann deGelder Obituary

On the afternoon of Easter Sunday, March 31st, 2024, our much loved Ann went home to be with our Lord. Ann will be lovingly remembered by her husband John; her children Kurtis (Kristin) and their children Drew, Luke, James; KarieAnn (Chris) and their children Kalum, Maddox, Allie; Kristen (Dustin) and their children Wyatt, Marty, Indy; Tom (Leah) and their children Hudson, Ava; and Lambert. She will also be missed by her siblings, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her first husband Martin and infant son Mark, as well as her parents, Peter and Tina, and in-laws, Klaas, and Tom and Agnes. Ann was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, the middle child of seven siblings. There are many stories of the fun that she and her siblings had growing up. After attending Grant MacEwan, she began her career as an educational assistant in Calgary. There she met her husband Martin. They moved to Ontario, where their two sons were born. A few years later after moving back to Alberta, their  daughters were born. Following Martin’s tragic death, Ann spent many years raising her children on her acreage near Red Deer. After her kids started college, she met and married John and welcomed two more sons. She and John took great pleasure in watching their family grow over the years to include eleven grandchildren. Whether it was snowshoeing, walking, woodworking, baking, gardening, or planning crafts for her grandkids, Ann was always up for anything and enjoyed life thoroughly. Her loving nature made an impression on everyone she met and people enjoyed spending time with her. She was a much-loved educational assistant and a faithful volunteer within her church and community. To our family, she was the best wife, mom and Oma we could have ever hoped for. She brought light everywhere she went. Her unmatched strength and love is a gift that she has left us. We are grateful to the caregivers at Villa Marie and to the Red Deer Hospice for the wonderful care given to Ann.
