Beryl Bale Obituary

Beryl Jean (Loomes) Bale

January 29, 1936 ~ August 24, 2020 (age 84)

We are sad to announce that Beryl Bale has passed away peacefully in the Red Deer Hospice, with family at her side.

Beryl was born in London, England, in 1936. During WWII, she and her family were evacuated to nearby Luton. Despite a childhood of living in cramped quarters, threats of bombing, many years of rationing, and losing her father at a young age, Beryl and her family thrived.

A musician and lover of classical music, Beryl was an accomplished piano and violin player. She also enjoyed gymnastics and danced in a troupe as a teen. As a young woman in the 50s, she taught many young pupils music, some of whom still correspond. She became a teacher and children’s librarian by trade.

Beryl emigrated to Canada in 1960 and married fellow expat and librarian William Bale in 1966. They settled in Lacombe and raised two daughters. She continued to teach private music lessons for many years. She and her mother had brought a passion for the English garden with them, and the two of them spent every moment they could tending their lovely flowers.

Beryl is predeceased by her father, Arthur Loomes (1953), her stepfather Fred Harold (1995) , mother Rosetta Harold (2004) and husband Bill Bale (2017). She is missed by her two daughters; Susan (Tom) Bale and Alison (Ron) Bale, brother Terry (Maureen) Loomes, step-daughter Hazel (John) Chastell, step-son Richard (Shirley) Bale, various uncles and cousins, and everyone’s respective families.

A planner to the end, Beryl died on her own terms. She called her daughters back to the hospice and announced that she was waiting for them (in the way that only mothers can do), and holding hands, passed gently within minutes.

Funeral services will be held at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel in Lacombe, on Tuesday, September 1st at 1:00 pm. The service will be followed by light refreshments around 2:30 pm, outside in the cemetery, weather permitting. The service will be recorded and available on the internet early in the afternoon.

The family would like to thank the FCSS in Lacombe and the Red Deer Hospice Society for taking such loving, professional care of both Beryl and her husband Bill in their times of need. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Red Deer Hospice Society will help ensure others also benefit https://www.reddeerhospice.com/
