Betty Doris Mima (Suitor) Johnson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Johnson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Betty passed away peacefully in Lacombe at the age of 92.

Betty was born in Lacombe to William and Ethel Suitor and was the youngest of 3 children. Her early years were spent between the family farm, Spring Valley, Meadowbrook, and Lacombe.

After completing grade 12, Betty worked as a telephone operator with Lacombe Telephone until her marriage to Earl Johnson on June 30, 1951; this marked the beginning of a remarkable 61-year journey together.

Establishing a dairy farm west of Lacombe, Betty and Earl dedicated themselves to operating the farm and raising their five boys.

In 1983, they embraced retirement from farming, ushering in a chapter filled with winters spent traveling to California and summers full of golf, camping, and quality time with family and friends. Betty enjoyed knitting in all seasons. Gifting her family custom sweaters, slippers, afghans, and baby blankets which were loved by all, especially Earl’s familiar red sweaters.

In 2005, Betty and Earl made the transition to town life. Betty found enjoyment in socializing with friends at the PepperTree, exercising at Curves, and having family over for coffee and treats.

Betty took immense pride in her family, relishing in the presence of each new generation. She delighted in watching her five children, 16 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren blossom and grow. The bond she shared with her extended family was a source of endless happiness, and her legacy lives on through the lives of those she held dear.

She is survived by her sons, Bill (Barb), Doug (Carolyn), Ken (Linda), her daughter-in-law, Pat, 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Betty is predeceased by her husband, Earl, sons, Dick and Allan.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff in the Memory Care Unit at Royal Oak where she received extraordinary care and attention.
