WOODS, Eileen Brenda “Betty”

July 26, 1931 – March 8, 2014

Eileen Brenda Woods, better known as Mum by her children, Betty by her friends and Tutu by her grand and great grandchildren passed away on March 8, 2014 in Lacombe, Alberta. She was born on July 26, 1931 in Tonbridge, Kent, England. Betty persevered through a tough childhood resulting from the war, but was rewarded with a loving spouse in 1951 when she married Keith. They immigrated to Canada in 1957 with Keith pursuing a teaching career in Saskatchewan with stops in Asquith, Saskatoon, Mount Forest and finally settling down in Melfort. Eventually Betty would enter the educational system as a librarian for Reynolds School in Melfort. Betty and Keith shared many passions including gardening, dogs, painting, camping and of course the drama club. Betty and Keith were honored by the Saskatchewan Arts Council for the their involvement with Melfort Amateur Dramatics club. Keith passed away in September, 2001 and Betty continued living in Melfort until 2009 when she moved to Lacombe, Alberta to be closer to family. Her family will continue to have fond memories and a special place in their hearts for Tutu. They include Tony Woods (Debbie); Joshua Woods (Jill), Brennan, Mira, Isla and Adriana; Lhea Hamilton (Colin), Alister and Jedediah; Malorie Sargent (Ryan), Isabella, Lilie and Brooklyn; Rylan Woods (Jojo Donahue); Judith Fox (Bill); Mackenzie Fox (Shane Morrow), Kohen and Cooper; Tim Fox (Sheri), Rylee and Ethan; Ian Woods (Connie); Justin Woods (Crystal), Olivia and Zoey; Adam Woods (Nicole) and Emily; Chelsi Woods (Shawn Nowakowski).

 

A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held from the Chapel of Crossroads Church, (northeast corner), Red Deer on Friday, March 21st, 2014 at 11:00 AM. If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the Lacombe Palliative Care Society, Box 5576, Lacombe, AB. T4L 1X2.
