Blake Sheane Obituary

Blake Dennis Sheane

1956 - 2024

It is with sadness beyond words that we announce the passing of our dearly loved husband, father and grandpa who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the Stettler Hospital and Care Center at the age of 67 after a very brave and courageous battle with cancer.

Blake Dennis Sheane of Botha, Alberta, was born December 9, 1956 in Virden, Manitoba to loving parents Henry and Freda Sheane. In 1958, the Sheane family moved to the farm near Bluffton, Alberta.  After Blake moved away from the family farm he became a welder. He obtained his Red Seal Journeyman Welderon May 16, 1983. Blake worked at Camrose Machine and Welding. While in Camrose, Blake met his beautiful wife Cathy who he married on April 26, 1980. Their oldest son Derrick was born in 1981.

In 1985, Blake opened his own business alongside his brothers Garth and Blair. PanAlta Equipment Rebuilders Ltd. in High Prairie operated from January 1985 to March 1989 during which time Blake and his wife added two more children to their family, son Marcus in 1985 and daughter Melissa in 1987. After the sale of the business, Blake and his family purchased an acreage in Bawlf and Blake returned to work at Camrose Machine and Welding. Blake spent countless hours fencing the acreage so the family could have some cattle and a donkey. He also worked up two massive garden spaces for the family to grow their own food. The Sheane family remained on this acreage until 1995.

In 1995, the Sheane family moved north to High Prairie where Blake put his outstanding skills to work again, building corrals, shelters, a shop and a barn for the family to have a small cattle farm while Blake also worked at Northwest Machine and Welding before becoming self-employed once again. In 2011 Blake and his wife moved from the High Prairie farm to an acreage near Bezanson and then moved to Stettler in 2021 and settled in Botha in 2022.

Blake will forever be remembered for his love of family, his legendary sense of humour, his incomparable talents in metalwork, his commendable work ethic, his love for nature, his enjoyment of fishing, his humble character and his ability to find a solution to every problem and making the best of every situation. Blake was taken far too young. May he rest peacefully, free of pain, and rejoice with the Lord and his predeceased family and friends. May you enjoy your first cup of coffee in the morning and remember Blake.

Blake is survived by his loving wife Cathy of 43 years; son Derrick (Vanessa) Sheane; grandsons Parker, Evan and Zack, son Marcus (Carla) Sheane; granddaughter Ddendyll and grandson Dennis; and daughter Melissa; grandsons Carter, Austin and Grayson. Blake is also survived by six siblings: Gail (Allen) Meikle, Garth (Judy) Sheane, Terry (Jane) Sheane, Blair (Goldie) Sheane, Nona (David) Anderson and Morris Sheane as well as numerous nieces, nephews and life long friends.

Blake was predeceased by his parents Henry and Freda Sheane and his sister Elphilda.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mairs and his team of professionals at the Red Deer Central Alberta Cancer Centre for their passionate care as well as the many wonderful nurses and doctors at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. Additionally, we would like to thank Dr. Eme Vermulen and the many compassionate nurses at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre, inclusive of the wonderful Home Care staff, for caring for Blake.  Words cannot express how much your kindness has meant to us all.
