Carl Ganter Obituary

Carl (Andrew) Ganter, of Lacombe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, a few weeks short of his 95th birthday.

Born August 29, 1930 in Macklin, Saskatchewan, he was the son of the late Andrew and Maria (Hofer) Ganter and a loving husband of 65 years to his late wife Beatrice (Lee) Ganter.

Carl is survived by seven children: Margaret (Terry) Lloyd, Joan (Tom) Bedell, Loraine (Fred) Johnstone, Christine (Guy) Chouinard, Andrew (Carla) Ganter, Paul (LaDelle) Ganter, Elizabeth “Lydy” (Rick) Walker; Siblings: Mary (Gordon) Johnson, Magdalena, Hedwig, and Ben Ganter; In-laws: Wilma Ganter and Charlie (Dorothy) Lee; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and multiple generations of grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bea, Siblings: Joseph Ganter, Tony (Lorna) Ganter, Elizabeth (Roly) Plester, and Henry Ganter; In-laws: Albert Bedard, Bertha Ganter, Kathy Christian, Wilma (Jim) Chalmers, and Billy (Myrna) Lee; and one Great-grandson Teryck Graham.

Carl, past owner of Dun-Rite Motors, was known for his honesty and friendly service.  President of the Lacombe Rifle and Pistol Club from its inception until its demise in the arena, he taught shooting safety and accuracy, as well as archery.  He was a remarkable shot, competing at Bisley, England 25 times, mostly on the Canadian Team, as well as several other world and Canadian matches, winning numerous medals and trophies.

A talented mechanic, musician and machinist, he was always busy.  If he wasn’t loading bullets, shooting, flying, playing music or working, you might have found him golfing, fishing, hunting or playing pool, Crib or Kaiser.

As per his wishes, Carl’s body has been donated to science at the University of Alberta for others to learn from.
