Cathy (Salomons) Plantinga

October 18, 1936 – February 6, 2025

In loving memory ~

Catherina  (Cathy) Plantinga passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 6th, 2025 at the age of 88 years at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre.

Cathy married Joseph Plantinga in Lacombe on April 8, 1964 and settled in the Fourth Creek area northwest of Grand Prairie where they expanded the homestead and raised their 5 children. She returned to the Bentley area in 1994 and reconnected with the family and friends from her youth.  She was actively involved with the activities of the Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church and the Bentley Ag Society and the annual fair.

Cathy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Marlene (Craig) Hutscal, Sandra (Kevin) Hemeyer, Karen (Stuart) Melvin, Beverly (Alan) Lipon and Allen (Melanie) Plantinga, grand children Luke (Lisa) Hutscal, Mary (Ronald) Townsend, Johanna Plantinga, Ian Melvin, Katherine Melvin, Zoe Lipon, Maya Lipon, Spencer (Jenna) Plantinga, Andrew Plantinga and three great grand children Lyla, Phoebe and Andi.

Cathy is survived by sister Willie Reitema, and brothers Harry (Ruth) Salomons, Herman (Leida) Salomons and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.  Cathy was predeceased by her husband Joseph (1989), sister Jenny Talsma (2016) and her brother Sam Salomons (2017).

Cathy's family would like offer their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the caring staff at the Good Samaritan Good Shepherd Home in Wetaskiwin, and to all the Doctors and Nurses of the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre who provided Cathy with such an exceptional level of care and loving support. Also sincere gratitude to the members of the Woody Nook congregation for their many acts of kindness and support. We are beyond grateful to all of you.

Funeral Services for Cathy will be held at Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church (40104 Range Rd 281, Blackfalds, AB) on Thursday, February 13, viewing at noon with service at 1:00pm.  Internment will be at Alex View Cemetery in Silver Valley on Saturday, February 15th at 1:00pm.
