Cecile Stony-Carroll Obituary

Stony-Carroll, Cecile

On the afternoon of January 5, 2021 we said goodbye to this feisty, loving, courageous, determined woman Jim calls wife and we are blessed to call Mom.

She was born in Edmonton, AB on November 9, 1936 and passed from this world on January 5, 2021.

Mom had many years of ill health and her desire was to finish her time on this earth at home. She received her wish. She was surrounded with family who gently cared for her until she peacefully passed. We view this as an honor not given to many in these times and will be eternally grateful for it.

Mom was adopted as an infant and raised on the Enoch Cree Nation until the time she was taken and placed in the Residential School System. From there she endured foster homes until she was old enough to strike out on her own. She had taken a hair dressing course and came to Bentley at age 17 to work for Palmer’s Beauty Salon. She married Jack Turnbull and raised 4 children.

Mom was fortunate to have found her birth family. She had half-brothers and a half-sister as well as a whole bunch of cousins she grew to love.

She was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took such joy in each step as they grew.

Mom hit the jackpot in September of 1998 when she married James Carroll. She spent many happy days in her flower beds on the farm. They travelled often to Missouri to visit with Perry and family. It was a trip they both looked forward to until travel became too difficult for Mom.

As Mom’s health failed, Jim and Deanna were there to help her through. We are thankful for her cousin Karen who also helped care for her.

Remembered by her loving husband James Carroll of Leslieville, AB

Daughters Deanna Turnbull of Leslieville, AB and Jean Landry (Len) of Bentley, AB

Son Perry Turnbull (Nancy) of St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren

Sister Doreen Lameman (Al) of Beaver Lake Cree Nation, AB

Brother Jack Deleon of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Many nieces and nephews

She was predeceased by her son Shane Turnbull, three half-brothers, and a half-sister

We’d like to express our gratitude to the EMS that attended Mom over the past few years, specifically the Eckville EMS who were there for us on Tuesday. Their professionalism and kindness didn’t go unnoticed. We send our appreciation to the Leslieville Fire Department as well as Rocky Mountain House Hospital and the Rimbey Hospital Center. Thank you to Home Care and the Respite workers who assisted with Mom’s care. You all made Mom’s last few years more comfortable.
