Born at Lavesta Alberta on the family homestead to Mike and Marie Marek, the only son among seven sisters. He attended school at Lavesta and took over the family farm in 1953 when his parents retired to Rimbey. An avid hunter and fisherman all his life he could often be found at his favorite lake casting from his boat or peering down and ice fishing hole. Upon retiring from the farm they moved into Rimbey in 1990 where he got to pursue his passion for gardening and time for more fishing!
Survived by his son Garry (Joanne) Marek, his daughters Sharon (Ken) LeLacheur , Melanie Quaife, his son-in-law Garry Chubey, one Sister Beatrice, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren
Predeceased by his wife Donna and daughter Robin in 2019, son-in-law Terry and six sisters
Funeral services were held from the Zion Luthern Church in Rimbey on Saturday September 2, 2023 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mark Schultz officiating. Interment followed in the Iola Fairview Cemetary in Bluffton
