Christine 'Christy' Mary (Burbidge) Burbidge-Boyd

Christine Mary Burbidge-Boyd, affectionately known as “Christy,” 66, of Lacombe, Alberta, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, in the Red Deer Regional Hospital ICU. Born May 20, 1958, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Christy grew up in New Minas, NS, before settling in Kentville, NS, after graduating from Mount St. Vincent University and marrying her beloved husband, Stephen. Following Stephen’s passing after 24 years of marriage, she moved to Lacombe, Alberta, where she built a new chapter surrounded by family and friends.

Christy dedicated much of her life to her career with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, working in the food sensory departments at research stations in Kentville, NS, and Lacombe, AB. She retired in 2016, embracing her next role as a proud grandmother. Christy found immense joy in watching her grandchildren, Haidyn and Rowen, flourish in hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and dance. Above all, she treasured simply spending time with her family—those quiet, everyday moments with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids were precious to her, a source of deep happiness and connection. In her personal time, she poured her heart into cooking, baking, and crafting cards with dear friends. A passionate traveler, she explored Alaska, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Mexico, and the United States, always eager to share those adventures with loved ones.

A devout Christian, Christy’s faith shone brightly through her involvement with St. James Anglican Church in Nova Scotia and Wolf Creek Community Church in Lacombe, AB. She cherished Bible studies, Alpha programs, and the fellowship of her congregations, where her generous spirit touched many. Christy was selfless, present, caring, loyal, sincere, supportive, and faithful—qualities that defined her and left a lasting mark on everyone she met.

She is survived by her son Darcy Boyd, daughter-in-law Jenny Boyd, grandchildren Haidyn and Rowen Boyd, sisters Judy Pitkin (John) and Maryann Burbidge, brothers Gerry Burbidge (Elizabeth) and Larry Burbidge (Diane), and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces. Christy was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Boyd.

A celebration of Christy’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Wolf Creek Community Church in Lacombe. A second service will take place later in Nova Scotia, where she will be laid to rest beside Stephen at the Garden of Rest burial grounds at St. James Anglican Church in Kentville, NS, per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations in Christy’s memory may be made to the Canadian Lung Association, a cause close to her heart.
