We are devastated to announce the passing of Corey Kroening, who passed away peacefully on the evening of the 20th of June 2025. Joe and Carol were at his side at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, and the staff on unit 32 kept him comfortable and free of pain as he passed away.
Survived by his son Dustin Baird, Mother and Father Carol and Joe Halter, and Brothers Wade Kroening and Carey Lutz. With unbearable grief we mourn, our family's tree has had another branch torn away too young, too soon.
With the loss of such a kindhearted and loving soul, this family has been frozen in grief. Corey was always a quiet presence until he got to know you and felt comfortable. His laugh would go from a little giggle and head bob to a full belly laughing chuckle that couldn’t help being contagious. You will be hard pressed to find any individual with a greater love for 80’s rock music, sports, and animals. And the most loyal, protecting and loving son, brother, uncle and father. As the world's best fishing partner someone could have, he had a depth of patience. It turns out that life, like a fish on a hook, can slip away in an instant.
“Let us not look for you only in memory,
Where we would grow lonely without you.
You would want us to find you in presence,
Beside us when beauty brightens,
When kindness glows
And music echoes eternal tones.”
- On the Death of the Beloved by John O’Donohue
Corey your sister Lonnie has led the way, and we would like to think that she has met with you on the other side to show you the ropes. We miss you. Your steady presence we enjoyed and loved in this life will be sharply missed and forever remembered.
