Daniel Fisher Obituary

Daniel James Fisher

June 17, 1983 – January 16, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Daniel James Fisher of Calgary, Alberta at the age of 37.

Daniel is survived by his loving parents Gail Fisher and Ken Fisher, his sister Jennifer Whyte (Dustin), his two nieces Breslyn and Sawyer, his extended family in Winnipeg and an abundance of friends.

Daniel was predeceased by his grandparents Mary and Wilf Ducharme of Winnipeg, Marlene Sutherland of Lady Lake Florida, and his Uncle Neil of Winnipeg.

Daniel was born and raised in Calgary Alberta.  He spent his childhood camping and fishing, and on the local ice rink down the street playing shinny. Daniel had A lifelong love of hockey and he shared this hobby and pastime of watching the Calgary Flames with both of his parents. Not having a love for academia growing up, he preferred working with his hands. Daniel shared many trades over the years including butcher, baker, electrician, and plasterer. He found his niche working with his dad and became a finishing carpenter, combining his trades experience to residential home renovations.

Daniel was a kind and gentle soul who would talk to anyone that sat down beside him. He had the greatest hugs and would give them freely, always offering a hug before a handshake. Daniel always expressed how much he loved a person, even if it was just in passing, a text, or a five-minute phone call. Always a lover of animals, Daniel was very sympathetic to downtrodden pets and would often bring them home to care for. He was head over heels in love with his two nieces, always willing to babysit and devoted his time to following their lead. Uncle Dan was a great story reader, cartoon watcher and nerf gun demonstrator.

A Celebration of Life will be arranged later this year when it is safe to gather.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the first responders and hospital staff at the Rockyview General Hospital for taking care of Daniel. We would also like to thank the staff and surgeons of the HOPE program for fulfilling Daniel’s final wishes and allowing him to impact many lives for the better after his death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made directly to the Calgary Humane Society in Daniel’s name (www.calgaryhumane.ca/donate/in-memory)
