Darrel Blair Hicks of Lacombe passed away unexpectedly, at Red Deer Regional Hospital on Dec 5/2022.
Darrel is survived by his spouse Donna, children Alisha and Brandon and The Love of his life Grandson Rylind, as well as numerous extended family and an abundance of good friends. Darrel is predeceased by his parents Barb and Blair Hicks.
Darrel started work as a teenager in Red Deer where he spent many years doing highway Maintenance. He was also an auxiliary constable in Red Deer for 10 years, loving all the excitement, before moving the family to Breton to live on an acreage where cows were a new experience. The family moved to Lacombe from there and cows were replaced with horses. Darrel worked again with Highway Maintenance, and finally changed jobs a few times to finally work with AFSC in Lacombe where he made many good friends and eventually retired. Darrel was learning the fine art of building decks etc. and built many things for the kids and on the acreage. Darrel loved to take Brandon and recently, teaching Rylind, to fish. Darrel loved to play a good joke on his co-workers and friends/family. He would also help and support any of his friends as they needed it…no question! Darrel also loved to sit in the shade and watch the birds on a warm day with some kind of meat in the smoker and a beer in hand.
Celebration of his Life for Family and Friends June 5, 2023, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the house.
