Deng 'D.J.' Jin Bing

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of my dad, Deng Jin (DJ) Bing, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on November 3, 2025 at the age of 70 in the Lacombe Hospital.

Dad was born in Gansu, China and after losing his parents at a very young age, he was fortunate enough to have been raised by his loving grandmother. My dad was a man who faced many hardships throughout his life yet never allowed any of them to harden his spirit. Through every challenge, hard work, determination and selflessness, he later built a wonderful life for himself, wife and daughter in Canada. No matter what my dad accomplished in life, he did it full of quiet grace. He had an incredible ability to see the good in the world and everyone who was lucky to have met him felt his kindness and humility.

Everything dad did, he did for his family. He worked tirelessly to provide the best life possible for my mom and I. After more than 25 years as a Research Scientist (specializing as a peas breeder) for AAFC, he took great pride in his career and the people he worked alongside. In 2024, he won the APG Pulse Innovator Award for contributions he made to the agriculture industry.

Dad found joy in life’s simple and beautiful moments such as watching his daughter graduate university, taking a picture of a vibrant sunset, laughter from his granddaughters, Mila and Lucy. He and mom shared a love for travelling the world together. They were fortunate enough to have travelled to 12 plus countries together and the memories of these trips will be carried with my mom forever.

He is survived by his loving wife, You Fang Xue; his daughter, Shufei (Sophie) Xue; son-in law, Ryan Stephens; and granddaughter, Lucy Stephens. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

A private celebration of life will be held with immediate family to honor my dad who gave so much and asked for so little in return. Though we will miss him deeply, we have taken comfort knowing he left this earth with dignity and was greeted on the other side by his parents, grandmother and granddaughter, Mila. His outlook on life will live on through all of us.
