He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sally and their children, Tannis (Clint) and their children Clay, Hannah, and Porter of Stettler, Kane (Angela) and their son’s Max and Lucas of Lacombe, and Sommer (Mark) and their daughter’s Pernilla and Frankie of Lacombe. He is also survived by his sister’s Lorrie (Mark) Loberg of Calgary, Elva Smith of Edmonton, and sister-in-law, Lynne Gendron of Lacombe and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dennis was predeceased by his parent’s Irene and Gordon Smith, sister-in-law, Sandra Berry and brother-in-law Raymond Gendron.
Dennis was born on February 10, 1946, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and moved with his family to Lacombe in 1947. Dennis had a charmed childhood enjoying his mom’s baking, the freedom to explore nature, and playing many sports. During High school, he worked at the Tom Boy Grocery store, went with friends to the Bentley dances and met his high school sweetheart, Sally.
In 1971, Dennis and Sally got married and he worked at the Lacombe Post Office until they purchased the propane business, Smith’s Cylinder Service, in 1974. That same year they bought a quarter section on Elkhorn Road. This is where they made their home, began to farm and raise all three of their children. Dennis enjoyed multiple sports, track and field, baseball, and curling, he loved a card game and a cold beer. He was the life of the party, a loving and generous husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all.
Please join us in a Celebration of his Life on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 2pm. The memorial will be held at the Younggren farmstead, and current home of Sommer and Mark on C&E Trail.
