It is with deep sadness we announce that Donald Knopp passed away suddenly in his home on June 1, 2022 at the age of 87 years. Don will be lovingly remembered by his dear wife of 63 years, Gloria of Lacombe, Alberta ; their children Brian Red Deer, Alberta, Leanne (Rob) of Calgary, Alberta and Glen (Cheryl) of Calgary, Alberta and his 5 grandchildren Jacob, Nicholas, Madeline, Emily and James.
Don comes from a family of 13 children. He will be sadly missed by his sisters Myrtle, Dorothy, Nona (Jerry) and Aileen (Jim); twin brother Ron, brothers Wayne (Maureen), Jim, Wes (Donna) and Adolph (Hazel), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Don is predeceased by his parents John and Alice, his step mother Lydia, sister Lorraine and brothers Bill and Oliver.
Don was born October 3rd, 1934 in Edmonton, Alberta and spent his youth living in New Sarepta, Alberta. Don married Gloria on August 7th, 1959 and together started a family of three children. Don dedicated his entire working career to Alberta's oil and gas industry that included 7 years with Pembina Pipeline and in 1961 started his 33 years with the Government of Alberta as a pipeline inspector/supervisor. He played many sports growing up including hockey, golf and fastball, but his true passions were curling and fishing. He was a member of teams with twin brother Ron and other friends that won several Oilmen's Curling Bonspiels over the years. He loved spending time at Buck Lake ( or any other lake with water and fish!) in the summers and both Buck Lake and Gull Lake ice fishing in the winter. Don enjoyed landscaping and taking care of his yard as well as gardening. He loved to cook and hang out with his beloved pal Maggie the miniature schnauzer.
