Donald "Don" William Ironside Obituary
Donald “Don” William Ironside – passed away with his family by his side on June 12, 2026 in the Lacombe hospital after a brave struggle with Lewy Body.
Don was born March 1, 1946 in Saskatoon, SK. He grew up in Outlook, SK where he joined his father’s auto repair shop before he was even able to drive. He later completed his journeyman automotive ticket while living in Cranbrook, BC and spent a few years working along side his father, operating Tilden Car Rentals. Don later moved to Alix, AB where he opened his own shop, “Ironside Auto,” that he ran as owner/operator, for over 20 years.
Don was a sports enthusiast throughout his entire life. In his youth, Don played hockey and baseball passionately, and later, found curling and golf. He was a season ticket holder and huge fan of the Red Deer Rebels for many years. While symptoms eventually kept Don from the tee box, he always had the sports channels on and could often be found flicking between channels and enjoying the games.
He will be remembered as the most thoughtful and loving husband to Marlene (Meeres), doting and adoring father to Lyalla, excellent stepdad to Chelsea (Pete Berreth) and Kyle (Tristan Johnson), the proudest grandpa of Noah and Adam Berreth and Parker and Turner Johnson. Caring brother of Darlene (Roger Anholt) of Moose Jaw, SK, Uncle Don to many and friend to so many more.
He will be missed.
