It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Lloyd Abbott announce his passing on February 27, 2025 at the Centennial Hospital in Ponoka, AB at the age of 94 years.
Lloyd was born in Red Deer on October 17, 1930 to Margaret & Reg Abbott. In 1948 Lloyd went to Bluffton to work for Ed Montabetti at the creamery. When the Bluffton creamery burnt down in 1948 Central Alberta Dairy Pool (CADP) acquired the assets so Lloyd was hired by CADP and worked for them for 44 years. He also worked through Alberta in the cheese factory in Neapolis, the creameries in Brooks and Hanna.
In 1960 Lloyd was transferred to Eckville where he managed the creamery. Lloyd was very proud of the butter he made while in Eckville as he won 28 ribbons over 6 years from the Royal winter Fair and Canadian National exhibition in Toronto. In 1968 he was transferred to CADP Head office in Red Deer and was made Field Service manager until he retired in 1993. His duties included Managing the Milk Haulers and Fieldsmen and the entire field service for the Central Alberta farmers on behalf of CADP.
During Lloyd retirement he moved to a small farm west of Rimbey with his wife Penny enjoyed horse riding through the mountains, fishing in Northern Alberta and traveling with the Good Sam RV Club to Yuma, Arizona, Alaska and many other places throughout Alberta. Throughout Lloyd's life he volunteered with the Eckville Boy Scout, fire department coached young boys hockey at Eckville. Lloyd attained many accomplishments throughout his school/university career, work & volunteer life. He enjoyed playing Old-timer's Hockey and proudly won award with the won awards Red Deer Elks patrol team.
Lloyd is survived by his Loving wife Penny his two daughters Kim Abbott, Lori Hallet (Philip) and one son, Grant Abbott (Shelley) two Step sons Craig Hoy and Randy (Michelle) Hoy, his sister Eunice Pistawka, Gail Machan (Vern) and his Brother in law Doug Montgomery. He has 9 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Reginald Abbott, his brother Walter Abbott and his Sisters Alberta (Birdie) Montgomery and Delores Mclean.
Lloyd's Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 28 2025 from 1-4pm at the Elks of Canada Hall B.P.O.E #85 Red Deer. 6315 Horn St, Red Deer, AB T4N 6H5
