Doreen May (Dicke) Ward Obituary

Doreen May Ward passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026 at the age of 82, while surrounded by her family.

Doreen was born on August 28, 1943, in Vermilion Alberta, to Abe and Hazel Dicke. She was the second oldest of six children. She grew up on the family farm south of Vermilion and attended school in Buffalo Coulee before moving to Three Hills for high school and Bible College. It was there that she met Milo and were married shortly after on June 15, 1963. Doreen and Milo made their home on the Ward family farm south of Kirriemuir, where they raised their family. Doreen wholeheartedly embraced farm life, a love that was evident in her beautiful flower beds, gardening, cooking, and baking. She was also deeply involved in her community through sporting events, 4-H, and above all her church and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

In the early 1990’s, Doreen and Milo semi-retired and moved to Gull Lake where they spent several years volunteering at Camp Silversides. It was there while working in the camp kitchen that Doreen became especially well known for her famous cinnamon buns-no one could make them quite like she could.

In 2000, Doreen and Milo moved to Lacombe to settle into retirement. During these years, they enjoyed travelling, bowling, spending time with family and their church, making many new lifelong friends along the way.

Doreen will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Milo; her children Dwayne, Lynnette, Daryl (Shauna) and Carla (Chad); and her 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Ralph; her sisters Marion, Gwen (Paul), and Sandra (Shannon); her sister-in-law Doreen; her brothers-in-law Steve, Ray (Margaret), Lenard, and Lloyd; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Doreen was predeceased by her parents, Abe and Hazel Dicke; her sister Lorraine; and her grandson Brett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Doreen’s memory to the MS Society of Canada https://mscanada.ca/ , or to Camp Silversides.

A Celebration of Doreen’s life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Lacombe Memorial Centre (5214 50 ave, Lacombe). The family would like to invite friends and family to stay for a lunch directly after the service.

A Burial will take place on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Kirriemuir Cemetery.
