Doris Iris (Graham) Jones

The family of Doris Jones (nee Graham) are so very sad to announce her passing at the Ponoka Long Term Care Centre on October 1, 2023 at the age of 97, having lived a long and full life.

Doris was born in the Chigwell district of Central Alberta to George and Hannah Graham, on November 27, 1925.  Her family moved frequently to many homestead farms in the Chigwell, Iola, Milton and Morningside areas.

Doris met her husband Bev before he enlisted to serve in the Canadian Navy in WWII.  They were married in 1947 after Bev returned from the war.  They raised three children, Terry, Sherry and Debbie.  Doris lived in her home in Lacombe from 1947 until 2022, 75 years!

Doris is survived by son, Terry (Linda); their children, Shane, Nikki and Trina; daughter, Sherry (Ron Prevost); their children Devron and Angela; in additional also Quinton and John Ryan Baird; 16 great grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Doris was predeceased by her parents; four siblings; husband, Bev who died in 1990; friend and companion Richard Gascon, who died in 2014; daughter Debbie Baird, who was killed in a car crash in 1992; and an infant daughter, who died at birth.

Doris loved to garden and prided herself in growing a beautiful one each summer.  She also loved being in nature and camping.  She had a talent for sewing and knitting, and loved the challenge of making anything she set her mind to.

Doris very much enjoyed the life of being a mother and wife, and thrived on keeping a nice home, putting tasty meals on the table, raising her family and making holidays and occasions extra special.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and friends.  She was so loved and will be dearly missed.

A Private Family Service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honour of Doris may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
