Dugald “Doug” Cameron Clark went home to be with the Lord, the One he loved and had served throughout his life on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Dugald was born in Montclair, New Jersey, to Joseph and Sarah Clark. He was the youngest in the family with two older brothers (Martin and Bill) and two older sisters (Mary and Gladys). When he was eight, the family moved to Canada where they settled in the Spruce Grove area for a time before they moved to the family dairy farm in what is now known as Clarkdale Meadows in Sherwood Park.
Dugald attended Bethel Gospel Chapel where he met a young lady, Joyce Corbett. They were married November 9th, 1963. Through a family friend, Dugald became a firefighter with the Edmonton Fire Department, a job that he truly loved. He joined the firefighters marching band where he learned to play the French Horn. Dugald and Joy were blessed with five children, Ethan, Scott, James, Shauna and Dawn. In 1973, Dugald was diagnosed with Diabetes. While the Fire Department was prepared to look after him and give him a Monday to Friday clerical job, he didn’t want to work for the Fire Department if he wasn’t going to be a firefighter. So in 1978 Dugald, Joy and the kids moved out to the farm on Highway 16 near Nojack. Over a period of years, Ethan married Teresa, Scott married LeeAnne, James married Kari, Shauna married Greg, and Dawn married Dan. This provided Dugald and Joy with 15 much loved grandchildren.
In May of 2013, Dugald’s precious wife was diagnosed with inoperable cancer. They sold their home and moved to Lacombe to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Dugald was predeceased by his wife Joy in October of 2013. After Joy died, Dugald lived at his daughter's place where he had a fall from some scaffolding. Once he recovered, he moved into a seniors lodge in Lacombe. Doug spent his day puttering at the Lacombe Agricultural Society which provided him with purpose and enjoyment as he got to work on his lifelong hobby of restoring vehicles. In January of 2018, Dugald had a stroke on his spinal cord. He never was able to regain his health so he spent his remaining days being cared for by great staff in the Lacombe Hospital and Health Care centre. He still managed to be able to enjoy his family, which continued to grow as his grandchildren were married and started families of their own, increasing the family with 7 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Dugald’s life will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest at the Leaman Cemetery which is located just across the road from where the Clark’s ranched for many years.
