Edith Wetzel, recently of Boyle, Alberta, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, March 30th, at the age of 91. Edith was born June 1st, 1928, in the area of Hardisty, Alberta, to Andrew and Emelia.
Edith graduated from the Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1953. She worked as a maternity and O.R. nurse in Grand Prairie until moving to Rimbey, where she worked as a Community Health Nurse. This is where she met and married Ken Wetzel on April 7th, 1954. Ken and Edith moved from Ken’s family farm into Rimbey and this began their infamous series of moves. Throughout their 60 years of marriage, Ken and Edith moved 18 times. With each move, their circle of friends grew and Edith held a special place in her heart for each of one. Ken and Edith loved to travel, taking many holidays together with their children.
Edith enjoyed spending time with family, and her biggest thrill was becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother. Edith is survived by her daughters Dianna and Delamae (Scot), grandchildren Melissa (Timothy), Meghan, Matthew (Jamie), Cam (Jill), T.J (Nicole); great-grandchildren Emilee, Jeremiah, Aven, Ethan, Joshua, Byron, and Roree-Ann; sister Anna; nephew Larry (Gail), and niece Maxine (Brad), along with numerous great-nephews and nieces. Edith was known as Ma and Grandma to those she considered family: David, Karen (Danny), Gary (Lynn) Darlene (Darrel) and Tina (Logan) .
A graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bentley Cemetery.
