Emma Marie Miller
1940 - 2023
Emma’s journey began on April 22, 1940. She was born Emma Marie Gelsinger in Rahstad, Russia.
Her family were potato farmers. Those were hard and frightening years. The family made the decision to leave the war torn country, and apply for a sponsorship to Canada. The men were all gone off to war, never to come back.
Their journey through Europe in a covered wagon was long and arduous, losing their grandma along the way. They travelled with other immigrant families on their way to the new country.
They made it to Canada 5 years later, in 1950. Their sponsorship family was in Manning, Alberta. They worked to pay off the sponsorship family for many years.
Then, moved to Fairview where Emma went to school. Emma then moved to Edmonton, where her brother was stationed. She met and married Bill Starr, and were now part of the army family. They had 4 children together. They transferred to Germany, and had many wonderful travel destinations together with friends all over Europe. Back to Canada in 1969, Bill retired from the army in 1972 and moved the family to Lacombe. Which has been home ever since.
Emma worked at Parkland Regional Library for over 27 years, she made some very good, lifelong friends (Who, still check in on her). Emma was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Royal Canadian Legion, serving many years as President, and secretary.
Emma married Jim Miller in 1983. They enjoyed camping and family and friends. They loved to go on long drives around the countryside. Many friends and family loved to visit and tell stories. It was a great time for all, many laughs and memories.
Emma is the last of the family that immigrated from that worn torn time. Her journey ended on August 29, 2023
Emma leaves to mourn her 4 children, Tim, Bill (Trish), Cyndi (Gary), and Doug (Patti). Her Grandchildren Nicole and Derek. Kristina, step grandchildren Scott & Courtney. Bobbi (Norm), Shylee (Justin), Kayleen (Gary), Stepgranddaughter Whitney (Cody), Aaron and Sarah, Stepgrandchildren Travis and Danielle.
Her great grandchildren Brooke and Landon. Cameron and Adonis. Aiden and Drew and Norman Jay. A new addition Scotlynn.
Of course Lorne Rombs, who always was special to Emma. Also many other nieces and nephews that too were special to Emma
Emma will be missed dearly by all those that knew her and loved her.
She made us laugh with her, and at her.
Her journey is over for now, and she can rest in peace, with those she has lost.
All are are welcome to a Come and Go Gathering at Emma's home on Friday, September 8, 2023 between 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
