Evelyn Lubbers Obituary

It is with love and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mary “Evelyn” Lubbers at Lacombe, Alberta at the age of 93 years.

Evelyn was born on March 5, 1932 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and was the 2nd youngest child to Bob and Helen Hodgson.  She enjoyed her life on the farm with her parents and 3 other siblings, Arnold, Shirley, and Dave, and attended Smithville Country School in Saskatchewan until Grade 9, then high school in Saskatoon, graduating in 1950.  After high school, she took a business course and from there, landed her 1st job as a Junior Accounting Clerk for the Saskatchewan Federated Co-operatives. She remained there until 1952.

In 1953, Evelyn married Edgar John Lubbers and began their life together, farming near Vanscoy. In the winter, she went with Ed to the logging camps in northern BC and worked as a cook.  In 1955, they started their family and she stayed home on the farm to raise her 3 sons, Brad, Kim & Dana.  In 1961, they moved to Alberta and bought a farm near Mirror where they stayed for 18 years.  They retired in 1979, sold the farm and moved to BC and in 1991 moved back to Alberta to be closer to her boys.

Evelyn was very social and loved to be involved. She belonged to several organizations. She was an avid curler, loved to play softball, travel, play cards and later in life enjoyed bowling and floor curling.

She is survived by her sons, Brad (Marilyn) and Kim; daughter-in-law, Barb; grandchildren, Tyler (Samantha), Courtney (Joey) and Linden (Emily); great grandchildren, Kane, Grady, Chloe, Brinley, Bo, and Breuer; sisters-in-law, Joyce and Lona Hodgson; as well as many nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Bob & Helen; husband, Ed; son, Dana; brothers, Arnold and Dave Hodgson; sister, Shirley Willie; and brother-in-law, Roy Willie.

A Celebration Evelyn's of Life will be held on Monday, August 11th, 2025 at 1:00pm at the Tees Hall ( 24 McNabb Street, Tees, Alberta), with honorary pallbearers being all Family and Friends that are in attendance.
