It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frank Prins October 26, 2025 at the age of 89.
Frank Prins was born July 14, 1936 on the homestead of John & Geertje Prins, in the County of Lacombe. Frank was the second born of seven children, four boys and three girls. He was a proud Alberta boy who loved the land, farming and nature. He grew up on a mixed farm with Cattle, Pigs and Grains. Frank walked to the Woodynook School, Lacombe Christian and Spruceville School all his life through Grade Nine. After that he remained at home working with his Dad to further build the Potato Farm. In 1959 he ventured out of Alberta to Abbotsford, BC to work as a mechanic at a machine dealership. There he met Irene and they started their 65 year romance.
Frank and Irene were married November 30th, 1960 in Abbotsford and then moved back to Lacombe to start their life together. They farmed for the next 45 years, growing potatoes and grain cropping. On the farm they raised their four kids; Kevinā (Cindy), Doug, Darlene and Coralee. Frank was well respected around the potato industry and proudly received the Potato King award in 1989. Frank loved trains, wildlife & birds, especially Purple Martins. He also enjoyed goose hunting, photography and travelling in their motorhome. Frank & Irene retired in the Village of Gull Lake. One of the first things he made sure to do was put up a Purple Martin house. Following that tradition in Lacombe when they moved there in 2018. Frank & Irene have continued to live there until his passing.
