It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glenda Beverly Johnson on February 05, 2026 at her home in Lacombe, Alberta, with her husband by her side.
Glenda was born on November 11, 1950 to Wilfred and Natalie (Dollie) Johnson in Lacombe, Alberta. She received her education in Lacombe, and Walla Walla, Washington. After graduating, Glenda began her teaching career at Lacombe Composite High School (LCHS), where her father was vice principal. Although the original position was meant to last one year, she dedicated 39 years to teaching sewing and food services at LCHS. Glenda was known for making her classes both fun and educational, and her students loved her.
Glenda met her husband, Clarence Datema, in the summer of 1984, and they married on November 11, 1993. After retiring, they enjoyed RVing and wintering in Arizona until health issues brought them back home to their duplex in Charis Village.
Glenda had many hobbies and talents, including tending to her flower garden, sewing, quilting, and creating beautiful Christmas trees and village displays. She was an active member of the Ponoka Quilting Group, where she made many lasting friendships.
Glenda is survived by her husband, Clarence Datema; her sister in-law Ann (Jack) Oudman; nephews and nieces Brian Oudman, Karen (Dale) Hofstra (children: Ryman, Jachin, and Chaim), and Michael (Jen) Oudman (children: Ella, Holly, and Becca).
She was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Natalie Johnson; her brother Artie Johnson; her sister and brother-in-law Donna and John Beausela; and her father- and mother-in-law Richard and Pearl Datema.
As per her wishes, there will be no formal public funeral. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Donations in Glenda’s memory may be directed to A Better World (#206, 5033 52 St, Lacombe, Alberta, T4L 2A6), or to Whiskers Rescue Society of Alberta (PO Box 27138, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 6X8).
