Glenn Carlson Obituary

CARLSON

On December 6, 2020 Glenn Murray Carlson of Bluffton, AB lost his battle with depression on his acreage and he took his permanent ride to greener pastures.

Glenn was born in Edmonton to parents Ken and Donna Carlson on March 9, 1957...he was the first of three children, sisters Lynette and Laurie completing the family in his early childhood. They began their family life in Drayton Valley and relocated frequently throughout his childhood, as they followed his dad’s drilling rig around the prairies.

He made his home in the Rimbey area after meeting his wife Vernita (Mannix) while foreman of a construction crew, building the Penhold overpass. They raised their three children Jennifer, Stephanie & Calvin on an acreage near his in-laws farm. Glenn was a valued, adored and respected member of his family and community, taking pride in cooking feasts for large groups and entertaining in his tale telling ways. He cared deeply for those he loved and was well known for showing up whenever someone needed anything. His work life was diverse...from road construction to well operating, consulting in well servicing, pipeline and oilfield construction. He was a leader in the community and enjoyed anything to do with horses, cowboying or spending quality time with all the people he watched over. He took great pride in serving others with his creative cooking abilities, officiating a horseback, mountain wedding for some dear friends, and anytime he was called upon to share words publicly. He immensely enjoyed spending time with his grand boys Ryder, Keaton & Coulter and was incredibly proud of them all for their unique qualities. He was a dedicated and devoted father, grandfather and husband, identifying as a protector and provider for everyone in his life. All who knew him held a special place in his heart, and he went the extra mile to ensure they all knew how important they were to him...not so much in words, but actions speak louder. Thank you to everyone who tried to connect with him in his darkness...we all attempted to give him a hand up but his damned old cowboy pride...

Special thanks to Rimbey RCMP & Victim’s Services. The family realizes how hard this was for you guys to be with them...Vernita is one of yours and we just thank you for holding it together when it wasn’t easy.

Glenn is pre-deceased by his sister Laurie Pederson (Stan). He is survived by his parents Ken Carlson (Pat), Donna Carlson (Norm), his sister Lynnette Campbell (Lonnie), brother Lionel Carlson, his loving wife of forty years Vernita, his children Jennifer Highmoor (Mark), Stephanie Carlson (Jesse), Calvin Carlson (Stephanie), his grandchildren Spud (Ryder Brown), Nugget (Keaton Carlson) & Goober (Coulter Carlson).

Donations can be sent to the family, who intend to start a foundation called Grizz’s Cowboy Pride to create an awareness and safe space for those who are struggling. Flowers can be sent to Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, or to the family via Blooms in Rimbey. A memorial will be held at a later date when the community is safely able to come together in remembrance, grief & celebration
