In Loving Memory of Glenn William Hunt
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Glenn William Hunt, of Eckville, Alberta who left us peacefully on July 25, 2025, at the age of 79, with his beloved son, Chris by his side at the Rimbey hospital. After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Glenn found rest surrounded by love.
Born on September 22, 1945, in Lacombe, Alberta, Glenn was the first of five children welcomed into the world by Hughie and Audrey Hunt. From a young age, Glenn’s love for the outdoors was clear—many of his happiest memories were made camping and fishing with his family, a passion he carried with him throughout his life.
In his early years, Glenn faced and overcame challenges, including a long recovery from rheumatic fever in Grade 3. He grew up in Lacombe, where he attended school and met the love of his life, Florence Mae Morris. They graduated together from Nelson High School in 1961 and, five years later, were married in their hometown, Lacombe, Alberta. They settled In Eckville, Alberta where their love story continued for 59 devoted years.
As a young man, Glenn was never afraid of hard work. He spent his teenage years working for Ron Chalmers and the Street family, where he enjoyed stooking bales at harvest time. Before turning 18, he was already well-acquainted with responsibility, working at Gau’s General Store stocking shelves and packing groceries. After graduation, he began his career in oil well maintenance with his Uncle Norman at NR Hunt Construction.
In 1972, Glenn and Florence were blessed with their son, Christopher Todd Hunt, and Glenn’s work as a pipeliner took him across Alberta—from Keg River in the north to Pincher Creek in the south, and east to Lloydminster where Florence and Chris often visited. Wanting to be closer to home, Glenn joined Fred’s Trucking, where he spent the next 43 years. He started as a mechanic and eventually played a key role in building the first plant for Medicine River Oil Recyclers, later overseeing disposal wells until his retirement.
Glenn and Florence shared a life full of love and adventure. Together, they traveled across the United States in their RV and visited tropical destinations like Hawaii and Barbados. Still, some of Glenn’s favorite moments were spent closer to home—camping and fishing with family in the Kootenay Plains, fondly remembered as “the place where it never rains.”
Glenn was known and loved for his joyful disposition, warm smile, and helping others where he could. Always seen in his signature denim shirt and jeans, or coveralls, he was always lending a hand or sharing a light-hearted joke. Glenn had a way of making people feel seen and appreciated. In his later years, he took great delight in his daily routines around town—especially handing out candy to the ladies at his work, the bank, the pharmacy, and other shops around town.
He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loyal friend. His heart was always open, and his presence left an imprint on everyone who knew him.
Glenn is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Florence, his son Chris (Wendy), his sisters, Joyce and LaVerne (Anno), his brother Al (Marlin) and aunts, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is now reunited with his parents, Hughie and Audrey, his brother Eugene, and his brother-in-law Fred Kroetch.
Glenn’s legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. As per Glenn’s wishes, there will be no formal service, but we invite you all to join us in remembering Glenn, Friday, Aug 8th from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Eckville Friendship Centre, 5011 54 Avenue, Eckville, Alberta.
