It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Herb” Draney, who left us peacefully on October 3, 2025, at the age of 77.
Herb is lovingly remembered by his daughters Tara (Orrin) Lind, Siobhan (Kent) Rajchert, and Deana (Trevor) Morton, as well as by Brenda Draney. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Carmen(Maverick), Austin(Trystan), and Hannah Lind; Rylan,Ronan and Ruby Hazard; and Indigo Morton.
He will also be dearly missed by his special friend, Bill McAdam, whose companionship brought joy and comfort in Herb’s later years. He was predeceased by Yvonne Rajchert and his Parents Deane and Bessie Draney . Herb’s warmth and easygoing nature drew people in — whether it was to share a story, a laugh, or simply a cold beverage while watching the game.
A lifelong sports fan and passionate golfer, Herb could always be found at the course or talking about the game he loved. Golf wasn’t just a pastime for him — it was a part of his personality. His love for the sport reflected his approach to life: patient, focused, and full of quiet joy. Herb’s kindness, humor, and down-to-earth charm made him someone people were naturally drawn to. You would never catch him without his signature English flat cap, a fitting symbol of his classic style and good-natured spirit.
Above all, Herb cherished his family. He treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren — whether sharing stories, laughter, or simply being together. He was also known for being a wonderful companion and partner to Yvonne Rajchert, whose love and friendship shaped many of his happiest years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Lacombe Legion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lacombe Legion or to a charity of one’s choice.
Herb’s presence was a gift to all who knew him. His laughter, generosity, and love for life will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Though we will miss him deeply, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit — much like his golf game — was full of heart, good humor, and grace.
